Finding Family

Chapter 2

Sirius and remus sat at their table eating breakfast the silence was deafening all sirius could think about was his trial at the ministry. He had so many thoughts going through his head he didn't hear remus call his name and was startled when remus places his hand on his arm. Sirius looked to see both worry and concern in his lovers eyes. He kicked himself internally for letting remus worry and immediatly gave his lover a reassuring smile. It seemed to work as remus smiled back and continued to eat. The clock in the hall stuck 11:00 meaning it was time to leave for. Sirius took a deep breath and took remus's hand and they apparated to the ministry.

When they arrived remus had to leave to go somewhere else as he was not allowed inside. Sirius was escorted by two guards to the courtroom where he was made to sit in a chair in the middle of the room. Sirius internally rolled his eyes when they chained him to it for safety reasons they claimed. He looked up at fudge with distain he hated the man with a passion but decided to suck it up to get this trial over with. It began with a man coming in and giving sirius a vial of veritaserum. He was made to recite to the wizengamot what happened the night his best friend was murdered and betrayed by the rat known as peter pettigrew and what really happened when he went after peter for what he did. The wizengamot voted unanimously to declare him innoccent and cleared of all charges. Sirius sighed in relief he was finally a free man. He left the courtroom alone no longer escorted by guards thanks to his new freedom and went to find remus to tell him the excellant news. He found remus sat alone in a room next to the courtroom and walked over to him with an ear splitting grin on his face. Remus's eyes widened grin now just a wide as sirius's . Remus ran over and kissed sirius happy that he was finally a free man.

Sirius and remus apparated back to their home and celebrated his freedom with a some fire whiskey. There next plan would be to go get harry from his realatives. They decided to take the car to get harry as harry is too young to apparate and the car would blend in better with the muggle world. As they drove sirius couldnt help the nerves that suddenly appeared. What if harry didn't want to come with him he thought. Remus saw the nervous look on sirius's face and placed his hand on sirius's thigh to calm him giving him a reaussuring smile."Harry will want to come with us"remus said sirius looked at him in doubt remus continued speaking"he loves you sirius remember how excited he was at the end of last year when u asked him to come live with you i doubt he has changed his mind since then my love"sirius smiled at the reminder of harry's excitement over coming to live with him when he asked last year. All sirius's nerves dissapeared and excitment took over at finally having harry living with him. He couldnt wait to see the joy on harry's face when they told him.

They parked infront of number 4 privet drive and got out walking up the drive to the front door. Sirius knocked three times and waited for an answer a tall bony blonde woman opened the door. Sirius could recognise that horse looking face anywhere it was petunia who he had met only once and lily and james wedding where she looked at him with disgust and hatred. She appeared to recognise sirius immediatly looking at him the same way she did when they met for the first time."what do you want" she asked hotly sirius rolled his eyes and said they were here for harry. Before sirius could say anything else a large walrus of a man came over yelling that they had no buissness here and to leave or else.

This must be vernon sirius thought he met the man breifly at the wedding he was jst as stuck up and vile as his wife. Sirius laughed at the threat "what could you possibly do to us"he said with a hint of warning in his tone. This made vernon even madder it was amusing to watch his face go red and a vein bulge in his fat neck and forehead. Remus cleared his throat giving sirius a look that said stop patronizing the man. Sirius just winked at him and asked again for harry."he's not home at the moment" petunia said panic lacing her voice slightly she pushed the door against herself so they couldnt see inside. Sirius's grin faded and worry started to creep up on him. He remembered a conversation he had with harry last year about how the dursleys used to make him sleep in a cupboard and used to lock him in there if he misbehaved which appeared to be a very lose term with the dursleys. That was the day he decided he was gonna fight for a trial so he got have harry come live with him. Sirius saw red he vilently pushed petunia out the way forcing his way into the house vernon tried to grab him but sirius turned his wand on the man scaring him away he faintly heard remus call his name but he didn't care memory's of his childhood flashed into his mind he pushed them down now wasnt the time. He got to the cupboard and and yanked the door open.

Sirius felt his heart enter his throat at what he saw. Harry was lying on an old camp bed covered in blood and bruises both old and new. Sirius thought he might have seen harry look at him but it didn't matter. He swore before gently picking harry up and leaving the cupboard. Remus's eyes widened then filled with rage when he saw harry. Sirius wanted to kill the dursley's for what they did but harry was more important. He pushed past vernon grabbed remus's arm and apperated away not caring who saw. They apparated to st mungos sirius called for help a couple of healers took harry and wheeled him to a seperate room to be healed. Sirius collapsed into the nearest chair his head in his hands. His heart was racing the adrenaline of what happened fading away. All he could do was blame himself for not protecting harry like he promised james he would. He sat defeated as they waited not knowing if harry would survive the night.
