My parents died three years ago. After they passed I went to live with my Aunt. Now that I am eighteen I am living back in the cottage I grew up in, the cottage that my parents died in. I recently learned that I am a witch and I have been practicing magik for six months now. I am finishing my senior year at Louisvill High and I have no idea where my life, my new life, is headed or what it has in store for me later on. My name is Rayne Sylvia.

Today is the ninth of September and I am wandering through the halls to my last class of this beautiful sunny Friday. A wide smile lights up my face as my eyes fall upon my best friend, Adam Canis, who was leaning in the classroom doorway waiting on me, as usual.

"Hi Rayne."

"Hey Adam."

As we took our seats a new student sauntered through the door and is instructed to sit in the empty desk beside me. As he sat and turned toward me, I felt an awkward vibe radiating from him as his eyes locked onto mine, like ice replacing my bones and would never thaw though my blood was at boiling point. I noticed that Adam had stiffened in his desk behind me.

"Hello. I'm Darick." he offered, in a smooth quiet voice.

"Hi. I'm Rayne." I replied, looking over my shoulder, I saw that Adam was clutching his desk feircly and staring at Darick.

The clas finally ended and I started for the door. Adam joined me as I stopped by my locker. Curiousity got the better of me.

"So, what do you think about the new student?"

"Why do you ask?" his gaze bore into mine, I had to look away.

I busied myself digging in my locker for books I needed for homework and taking books out of my bag that I did not need.

"Well, I just got this weird feeling that there is something different him than normal people. Not to mention, I noticed you were completly tense when he sat down. What was that all about?" I said as I closed my locker and started walking.

"Well, he is not human first off. He is a vampyre." Adam said.

Adam and I went separate directions at the parking loy. His car was in the left corner, shaded by a large oak tree, while my car was on the opposite side, in direct sun light.

My seats are going to be blazing hot. I thought.

"Rayne!" I heard someone calling my name, as I turned I saw Darick jogging up to me.

"You left your purse."

"Thanks. I wouldn't have gotten far without it." I laughed, digging in it for my keys turning back toward my car.

"Hey, I wanted to ask you if you wanted to hang out sometime?" He said, pushing his wavy brown hair from his eyes as he placed a brillian smile on his face.

"Well, I'm working tonight but--" Adam was at my side, draping a possesive arm around my shoulders.

"She's too busy to hang out with the likes of you. Rayne, let's go." He interupted, then he moved and held open the passenger side door to my car for me to climb in as her grabbed my keys.

"I guess I will see you later." I said through my open window to Darick.

Adam revved the engine to my beat up volks wagon and we were soon out of Darick's line of sight. I turned on Adam and began yelling furiously at him.

"What the hell was that for?"

"You don't need to hang around him. He is too dangerous, Rayne." That just added fuel to the firey rage burning within me. The car began to shake with my fury, and magik I have yet to control.

"Rayne calm down." Adam said in a soft voice.

"Since when do you think you have the right to tell me who I can hang out with? If people knew that you are a werewolf they would tell me not to hang with you. They would tell me that you are dangerous. I'm sure that if you were the new kid and Darick was my friend he would tell me the same things that you are telling me about him." I ranted, slightly calmer.

He gave me a sideways glance. "I am not dangerous. I'm as cuddly as a puppy, and that's not the point. He is a cold blooded killer."

"I can take care of my self."

He turned into his drivway and put the car in park then cut the engine off.

"Look," he sighed, "I'm only looking out for you. You are my best friend and the only thing I have left to care abouy. If you remember correctly my parents ditched me when I was a pup and that is how we are so close now. I don't want to lose you too."

"I know, but I just don't understand why you feel so threatened by Darick. Despite him being a vampyre. We are best friends and nothing could come between that. I will always be here for you, Adam. Nothing and no one will take me away from you, in anyway." I said, unbuckling my seat belt and opening my door.

I paused before getting out and as I ascended the steps to his cozy little home, I realized he was still sitting in my car. I walked back to his side of the car and opened the door.

"Are you going to get out or am I going to have to drag your ass out of my car?" I mused, a familier croocked grin came across his face as he got out.
