Allen Hartman was a sophomore at Beacon Hills High School, and while he wasn't part of the 'cool kids,' he had an adequate amount of friends, with Lily Busher being one of them.
The new semester had arrived, and Allen had Geometry Honors for the second block of the day. He chose a seat on a table for two in the back of the room. While everyone had settled down and the teacher was taking attendance, a tall figure entered through the door and observed that all the seats were taken but indefinitely sat down to the only free spot, which was next to Allen.
Minutes passed, and the boy finally responded to a name on the attendance list, Stiles. Allen had never heard of a name like that, but he deemed it interesting.
"Okay, everyone, in this class, there will be a lot of partner work, so we're going to do some icebreakers," the teacher announced, turning on the projector.
Mr. Finstock pulled up some examples on the board and passed a paper that the teacher meant for students to write down something they learned from their table partners.
Stiles looked at his partner, that returned an awkward side eye.
"Well, my name is stiles, and uh," he said, looking at the board again. "My favorite thing to do after school is hanging out with my friend group," he finished his sentence, looking back at Allen.
"Um, my name's Allen, and my favorite color is dark red," the boy spoke up, writing down his answer on the paper.
"Nice, mine's ocean blue, so tell me, what grade are you in?" Stiles asked, writing on his piece of paper.
"I'm in tenth grade, and you?" Allen questioned, getting an instant response. The eleventh grader chated the awkward boy up, talking about different aspects of the school. Allen still felt uneasy but responded to what the upperclassman said. Then, ten minutes passed, and the teacher announced that their current seats would be assigned for the rest of the year. Some students whined, but the two boys were unfazed by the declaration.
Allen usually kept quiet during classes and only talked when needed for an assignment, but he had an unfamiliar feeling that Stiles would be one of the handful of humans that he spoke to at that school. Yet, Allen was primarily confident that he found him attractive and had a delusional hope that they could ever become a thing.
The class ended before the boys knew it because they were too busy joking around.
From the other side of the classroom, the teacher looked at the two boys in the back and was genuinely glad that Allen had found someone to talk to because he'd had him for Algebra I the year before, which the boy barely spoke Meanwhile, he coached the Lacrosse team that Stiles was a part of so he knew them well and knew they would be a great "match."
Stiles put his phone number on Allen's cell so they could talk outside class, then they both went their ways to their following classes. For Allen, it was Physical Education that he shared with his best friend, Lily.
They waited for the teacher to dismiss them into individual activities; the duo had chosen walking for the unit, so they walked outside to the school's football and track combination.
"So, I met this guy," Allen started, causing her to look at him with a mischievous look.
"I do not have a crush on him, but he's from my Geometry class," he continued, and she still looked at him with a disapproving face.
