It's 1:08pm and you're just stepping into your favourite coffee shop, your hair is dishevelled due to the wind but you still look beautiful, as always. You greet everyone as you walk in with simple smiles, waves and friendly greetings, you know that everyone in this town loves you and you also know that with that reputation comes a pressure to keep up appearances.
You step up to the counter and order your usual, the barista doesn't even need to ask you, she just greets you and gets to work making your drink- a large, iced flat white with three shots of espresso and two pumps of caramel. Are you impressed? I remembered your order.
You collect your drink, pay and, of course, thank the barista before finally looking around the small cafe for a place to sit. You scan the room until your eyes land on me and you smile, moving in this direction, keeping your eyes on me the whole way over. I'm not entirely sure why you're coming over here but I don't care, you look so beautiful as you slowly stride my way, your eyes on me only and a stunning smile on your lips. I smile back.
"Hey stranger, what brings you here?" you say to me, taking a seat on the opposite end of my table.
"Just felt like a change of scenery, and a little birdie once told me the coffee is the best in here," I reply, gesturing to the coffee cup that rests on the table.
You laugh and then say, "God, how bad is the weather? It's so windy, like, I almost got blown away on my way here." A sudden change in subject, but that's okay, I can keep up.
"Yeah, I know, I think there might have been a hurricane down in Florida yesterday, I'm pretty sure I saw something like that on the news."
"Oh damn, another one? I swear Florida never has normal weather," you say, taking a sip of your coffee, sighing and then suddenly perking up, resting your head in your hand and smiling at me, you are so cute. "Sorry, that was a boring conversation, how have you been? I haven't spoken to you in a while."
I smile, you've always been such a considerate person, always asking how people are.
"I've been alright yeah, same old, same old. What about you?" I respond, taking a sip out of my takeout cup and placing it back down onto the table.
"That's nice to hear then, I think? Me too, still just boring-old me. To be honest, not much has really been happening around here recently," you say with a slight laugh.
I wish you could see yourself through my eyes. I've never, ever, once, thought that you were 'boring'. I know all of your routines and I don't think any of them are boring at all. You are such an exciting person with such a fulfilling life but, you seem to be the one person in this town that can't see that.
"I don't think you're boring." I smile.
Your eyes light up, even more than before, and then you settle into a warm smile. "You're so sweet, where have you been all this time?" you giggle and I match the sound with a light chuckle.
"Right here," I say through a laugh, but when I open my eyes and look at you, you're looking at me as if you've never seen me before. "Did I... say something weird? I'm sorry."
You immediately seem to snap out of it when I speak and you straight away begin to apologise, "Nonono, sorry, just me being weird. It's nothing, don't worry. I actually better be going," you mutter that last part, looking down at your watch, "It was so nice catching up with you, I'll see you around."
You get up and leave the coffee shop, waving back to everyone as you walk out of the door. I sit there, dazed, what did I do? I look down at my watch, it's only 1:28, you have nowhere to be, you still have another 12 minutes left of socialising in the coffee shop. I don't quite know what to do, so I finish my drink and then get up to leave, except I do not wave to anyone as I leave, no one really likes me in this town.
