"It is here."
Tiphania stopped her flight on top of a ruined building. Dracul took shape and moved to the edge she indicated.
Downstairs it was crammed with lights and moving metal cars. Little by little, humans were regaining control of their lives. But for how long?
A great house stood under his feet. With an illuminated patio and outdoor corridors. There were children, of all ages and ethnicities. Some little ones shared sweets and dolls, while the boys played jokes or played with balls or wooden swords. More people were taking care of them or hanging around the campus.
The Lord of Shadow sniffed.
"Is it one of the men, or the children?"
She watched him for a long moment.
"Why don't you find out for yourself?"
He glanced at her, trying to ease his irritation. Then he concentrated on the room. His senses rose and explored. He concentrated on males, since most of his descendants had been. However, he focused on...
"Damn it!" The dragon growled. "What kind of devilish joke is this?"
"The last of your descendants." She said quietly. "You can feel her divine power grow by the second."
And hell he did! Upon analyzing the little being again, he discovered a girl with brown-copper hair, no older than ten years. She laughed and chatted with other girls.
Oblivious to the cruel exterior.
"No!" He roared. "No god-dammit way! It is enough to carry the life of my wife and my son in my hands. I won't take hers too...!"
"I'm not asking you to put it on the battlefield. I am asking you to protect the last of your legacy. And Marie's."
"Don't you dare!" He pointed an accusing finger at her. "Don't even think about mentioning her! You don't know anything about her."
"I know enough to ensure that you would not want any of your descendants to suffer the fate assigned to them. You have the chance to save her from the curse of her bloodline."
The vampire gave a wry laugh.
"And what am I supposed to do?" He showed himself. "Look at me! No one in their right mind would give up their child to the most feared monster to ever walk this earth!" He then dropped to a growl. "That is why she hid my own son from me, remember?"
"And ignorance led him to confrontation and death." She stood up to him, energetically. "You can no longer use that excuse to let someone you care about die. You have the power, Dragon! You have destroyed entire legions with it!" Her voice dropped to a whisper. "So, use it, for what you really wanted." She paused. "To protect. Was not that what you promised?"
There was another silence.
"How can protect a beast without the ability to love?"
She looked at him for a long moment.
"You did very well during your journey in the castle."
That made him stop.
"What did you say?"
"You promised to choose your family. You've done it so far."
"How do you know about that?!"
"It is in your hands now, Lord of the Shadows." She began to withdraw.
"Damn hell, answer me!" He lunged at her, but she was gone in a flash.
"Do not disappoint me." It was the echo left by his voice.
Leaving him alone with his fury.
In a fit, he let out a roar and slashed at the nearest wall with his Chaos Claw. Causing half the building to be destroyed. The roar echoed into the night, but the humans would only notice another ruin being demolished.
He breathed over and over, trying to calm down. When he felt rational enough, he turned his attention to the children in the yard. They were all being led by their protectors into the building.
The girl, along with other girls, went to one of the rooms on the third floor. Subconsciously, he made sure to memorize the place where it rested. At some point, it returned to his memory, a Marie of that same age. Like her, she walked happily with her sisters through other corridors. It was a beautiful, peaceful scene.
Then, there was blood. Evil creatures were chasing them. They were overwhelmed with terror. And then death.
He cursed again. So many discoveries, and not knowing which one to focus on.
"Father!" Alucard took shape and strode closer. "What happened?"
Then again, where to start?
So, another Belmont for the list. What would you choose, dear Gaby? We will find out soon BV
As always, thanks for the support and I want to read you.
Peace~
