Alexander's Perspective:

The cold, crisp breeze of the winter air still plagues the forest as the seasons transition to spring.

Maybe I should've dressed a little warmer for this, but I've been so overwhelmed lately that I needed to get some space and fresh air.

I take a deep breath and sigh as I get ready to vent.

"I swear to fucking god," I kick the grass beneath me in anger. "How hard does it have to be to get some food? I just got paid last week and I'm already broke again!"

I run my hands through my long hair in an attempt to self-soothe. "My next paycheck doesn't come 'till next Friday; how the hell am I supposed to survive until then?"

I growl in frustration, wanting to tear up. "It feels like the world is getting shittier and shitter as time goes on. Yet at the same time I'm supposed to believe humanity is at the best point it's ever been in history? Bullshit."

I take in another deep breath. "And let's say I DO manage to make enough each week to guarantee a meal every day. Then what? Boredom...? Zoning out during my free time? Sleeping until my next shift starts?!" My voice starts to shake in resentment.

"Every day feels like it's the exact same. There's nothing new for me to see anymore..." I pinch the bridge of my nose as tears start to form. "I just... I need some kind of reboot. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to run away and start all over. To forget about everything. I don't want to die, but I don't want to live this life either..."

An orange glow between the trees catches my attention, telling me that nighttime is right around the corner.

Shit. Has it really been that long?

I guess I'd better start heading back... it's already freezing cold, and it'll only get worse as it gets darker.

A swift flash at the corner of my eye rips away my attention from the sunset. Loud thrashing soon follows, and I quickly feel like I'm being stalked.

My stomach sinks a bit. I hope that animal isn't after me.

Maybe I should try to scare it off.

"Hey, you mind?" I ask rhetorically. That should be enough to scare off whatever little critter is out there.

I wait a few seconds and the noise stops. I decide to continue moving back home, but I am hastily interrupted again with even stranger sounds.

What the fuck is that?

It's mimicing some kind of language, but whatever it is, it doesn't sound human at all.

Something's not quite right...

As the 'voices' grow in volume, perplexing clicking and eerie humming vibrations ring through the vegetation.

Alright, this is starting to creep me out. "Hello...? I'm just passing by!" I shout into the wild, hoping whoever it is reveals themself.

Suddenly, a large, titan-like figure slams down in front of me like a meteor. I instantly crash to the ground before I can fully grasp what's in front of me.

This long-limbed, muscular... thing... stands towering above me. My heart is flushed with adrenaline, and my instincs kick into overdrive, ripping any and all autonomy from my body and forcing me to run away.

I spin around and do my best to scramble away. I run for my life in whichever direction I can, not caring about where I'm headed as long as I'm away from whatever that nightmare fuel was.

My athletic physique gives me a strong advantage in the start, but I was cross country, not track and field. I'm not built for sprinting like this.
