Hey guys! So this is just sort of my take on the Hunger Games. The start is pretty much based off of the Hunger Games, You'll see little bits throughout the story, that are similar to the Hunger Games. Hope you like it! xx chellyteddy
Today's the sixth. Tomorrow the Guessing will be held.
Now I know you're probably really confused with what I'm saying, so let me explain....
Each year, the Mayor and a couple of other important people set up "The Wynter Games". (They thought they would be smart by replacing the "i" in Winter with a "y".) All of the children aged 14 - 17 compete in The Wynter Games. But before The Wynter Games are held, The Guessing is held. An hour before The Guessing is held, you receive a number between 1 and the number of children aged 14 - 17 in our little suburb. Last year over 100 children entered. All of the numbers are written down on cards. Then fifty long tables are set up and the Mayor has all of the children line uphorizontal to the tables. Someone yells out "GO!" and you run forward, grab a card and then step back. Some cards are blank, which means that you're automatically safe from The Games. Before the Guessing, seventy numbers are drawn out and placed on the tables, some numbers are put in three or four times. There are enough cards for one per person, and usually there are about twenty cards left over. If your number is picked up three times, you will be competing. Though, if you have a blank, you are safe. It's completely random. You just have to lunge for a card and God, hope it's a blank.
What's so bad about the Wynter Games, anyway? you ask. Eveything. It's mainly a brain challenge. Twelve children enter the games, sometimes there are more boys than girls. Last year 10 girls were competing, and only 2 boys. The whole thing of the Games is to out-smart everyone else. It's very hard for a fourteen year old to out-smart a seventeen year old. But it's the luck of the cards. If your number is picked three times, bad luck.
All of the twelve children recieve a power, whether it's controlling fire or water, you don't know until the very last minute. Each power helps you in some way. The powers vary every year. The Games are held each year, always in Winter. That's why it's so awful. All of the twelve kids are thrown into a maze, each at a different starting point. Puzzles weave through out the whole game, until the last step. The first one to the end of the maze wins. If you fail at solving one of the puzzles, bad things happen to you, and it puts your chance of winning right on the line.
Occasionally people drop dead, it's rare, but not impossible. Your stuck in a maze, in the middle of Winter. Not much fun. Now, you ask, what's the point of this? Entertainment. You'd be surprised how many people love watching the Games. Everything is broadcast life, for everyone to see.
After the winner is announced, what happens to the other competitors? Well they usually have a second or third winner, but not always. It depends if the mayor's in a good mood, or bad. If you win, you become a millionaire. I'm not joking. You can get anything you want with a click of your fingers. And your pretty much famous, it's hard to forget someone who won The Wynter Games. Some children train their whole life to get to the Games. Others, like me, just hope they don't get picked. As for the other competitors, they are put to work. They have to work as slaves, or down in the mines as a punishment for not winning. Sick, hey? Well tough luck, that's the way it works.
As for food and water, you get a backpack full of things you need to survive. The supplies are supposed to last you two weeks, if you rashon them carefully. But there's always a twist, just like everything else. Each pack does contain two weeks worth of food, but that doesn't always mean good quality. Each pack contains one loaf of bread, in one pack the bread may be freshly baked, warm and fluffy, but in another pack it may just be burn crust that is almost inedible. Usually the Games don't go for long, but once when I was about 8, I remember the Games going for just over three weeks. A lot of competitors died that time round. Some other competitors were smart, and made water out of melting snow, and found moss to eat and other weeds, they just managed to scrape by. The pack includes: a sleeping back, lot's of tins or bakebeans and other long-lasting food in cans, two packs of matches, one loaf of bread and about three galons of water. The water makes the pack heavy. You also get things for completing challenges. Like a knife or some extra food, it depends on how hard the challenge is.
