CHAPTER ONE ;
GRANNYIT was freezing, there was no doubt about it. The numbness in my fingers was a telling sign that I may have hypothermia.
hold up. Did my parents freeze me so they could revive me or something?
My eyes shot up. something I had never done in months.
"What the hell..."
I was in a small alley, the floor covered in a blanket of fresh snow, with more coming down from the dull sky. It was night, or at least later on in the afternoon, and small little cabins were lit up by fires lit by their inhabitants.
"What the actual fu—"
"Hello there, deary. Are you alright? You look awfully cold!" A small, feeble voice said
I turned in response and was greeted by a much older woman. Wrinkles decorated her aged face as she gave a kind smile.
"I... don't know where I am."
Her smile morphed into a confused one until she took off the scarf around her neck and placed it on my shoulders.
"My, my! You shouldn't be walking around in attire like that! Have you seen the weather? The snowfall has been getting worse lately..."
I clutched the scarf around my shoulders harder to bask in the lingering warmth of the older woman.
I had only just realised I was still in the hospital gown I was given to wear.
"My bad, I didn't really anticipate I'd arrive in Antarctica today."
"Antartica? I'm not sure what that is, dear! You're in Snezhnaya, silly! Now come! Let's get you warmed up, my home isn't far from here."
She grabbed onto my arm before I could process the words that had left her mouth, and soon we arrived in front of a humble cabin, out of the way from the other houses.
She ushered me onto a wooden chair and lit the fire with logs that were in a pile.
"Did you say Snezhnaya? Are you sure I'm the silly one here, Lady?"
She gave a quizzical hum as she lit a fire under a pot.
"There's no way; if that were true, that'd mean that I'm in a game."
"A game? Were you playing around with friends or something and hit your head a little too hard?"
"I don't get it; I should be dead, shouldn't I?"
"My, I didn't take you to be a pessimist! Now eat this goulash to warm up before you get more sick, and I'll get you a change of clothes!"
She waddled off into another room as I stared into the soup.
My reflection was the same; nothing had changed at all. The dark circles that seemed to plague me were still very apparent.
Even in another life, I can't escape dark circles and eye bags; how unfair.
I picked up the wooden spoon the lady had given me and started to eat the concoction.
"You seem troubled, dear," the familiar, feeble voice said.
I shook my head.
"I'm sorry if I'm being a burden; I really am confused."
She gave a hum.
"Perhaps the mild hypothermia you're suffering from gave you memory loss? Do you know if you're from here or perhaps another nation?"
"Other nations?"
"Yes. Like Mondstadt, Liyue, Sumeru—"
"Holy shit."
"Excuse me?"
"This means that it's actually real. Granny get the defibrillator out. I think I'm about to go into cardiac arrest."
"A defiblawhat now?"
"I'm sorry for bothering you, Granny! I'll leave right now!"
"Slow down, kiddo. Who would I be to kick a youngster out into a world they don't remember?"
"THERE'S NOTHING TO REMEMBER!"
"Yeah, yeah. Now get into a change of clothes and go to bed; you'll be helping me out tomorrow if you're well."
"WHAT?!"
"You'll live with me, deary. Being old has made things harder for me; having a helping hand would be appreciated."
"How do I know you're not a murderer or something?"
"Oh right! You can keep calling me Granny! Now get to sleep, kiddo!"
She's not listening to a word I'm saying... she's 90% likely to be a murderer.
