Ruby awoke to the smell of bacon, pork and rice. That was her favorite meal that her mom had made for her ever since she was little.
Ruby lives in New York, but her, her mom and her dad were on vacation in California. They were in a small apartment, not to good not to bad. It was decent for what they could usually afford. Ruby and her family weren't doing so well with money. Her dad had recently lost a job and her mom was working double shifts. She was happy they had finally saved up enough to take a break.
Whence Ruby had fully woken up she climbed out of her floor bed and went to her suitcase to pick out clothes to change into for the day. Her room was pretty bare, but she was excited to be able to leave New York for a while. It wasn't a very nice place, people would constantly get beat up in the streets, but her parents didn't have enough money to move.
Ruby decided to wear her favorite outfit for this very special day, a light pink sweater with a light red bow on the front and large sleeves, a semi-long white skirt with a grey line towards the bottom, some white knee-high socks and her favorite bear sneakers.
She walked down stairs to see her dad sitting on a bean bag eating his breakfast while reading a newspaper as he slide his glasses up every few seconds.
"Hello dear! How was you're first night of sleeping in this new apartment? " my mom said cheerfully.
"It was good I guess, I just have to get used to it. " I said, trying my best to not let my parents see that I didn't want to live like this anymore.
"That's the spirit! " my dad said, finally looking up from his newspaper.
I just walked over to the counter and grabbed my breakfast. I walked over to my dad and sat next to him on the floor, leaning my back on the bean bag chair. It wasn't the most comfortable but it was better than just sitting up straight.
"Me and you're father have to run some Errands after you finish eating dear. " mom sounded less cheerful, almost like she was scared to go out.
"Can I go to? " I asked, wanting to take a look around at the place I'd be staying at instead of being stuck at home all day to rot.
"No! " my father said sternly
"No dear, I'm afraid you can not.. " he seemed just as worried as mom.
A while later
Mom and dad had been gone for a few hours now. I sat there and sat, I was reading my favorite book for a while but then I got bored.
Before I knew it, it was already 12:00 AM, but my parents still weren't home... They never stay out this late... Never...(Thank you for reading!! A knew chapter will be posted when I have the spare time! ❤❤❤)
