It had turned dark outside. The only visible light source came from the moon's faint glow, leaking through the blinds covering the window. It was accompanied by the harsh light that was coming from the computer screen.
Indiana or Indi as he was most often referred to as was sitting at his desk while his hand hovered over his mouse. He was contemplating whether or not to join his friends on a voice chat, where the group was most likely to be playing games together. It's not that he didn't like his friends but after a long day, he was never really in the mood for conversation. However, in the end, looking for something to do to relax he knew his friends wouldn't mind so he decided to anyway and left-clicked on the join button.
'Hey, Indi.' Madi, one of his closest friends, greeted him. Making everyone else follow suit and say hello.
"Hey." The boy replied, tapping his fingers on the desk. Allowing everyone to continue with what they were doing, except for Madi.
'Would you like to join us?' She asked without giving him time to respond, 'Great! I'll send you the download.'
'Sure thing.' Indi sighed. 'This always happens.' He said talking to himself, not that he minded it though.
'What was that?' Madi replied, lowering her tone.
'N-Nothing!' Indi hurriedly answered.
'I thought so.' The girl said, returning to her task in the game.
Indi proceeded to download the game and create his character making it as much like himself as he could. Afterward, he logged on to a private server with his friends taking note of who was online. He listed the names to himself, Brandon, Josie, Reece, Zach, and Madi. Taking a moment to look at his surroundings, he observed the small little village the group had made. It was a charming place complete with cobblestone pathways encircling and spreading out from a water fountain that held a large stone statue of a mermaid. The entire place was also lit with low-hanging lanterns, which were active for the night cycle of the game giving it a cosy vibe. Indi was then joined by Madi's character by the fountain.
'Come on noob I'll show you how to play.' The girl said, mocking him.
'Yes ma'am.' he replied, attempting to annoy her, it worked. Evidence of his death in the kill feed.
After playing for a considerable amount Indi had gained a good understanding of the game, acquiring a decent set of gear and skills. He had chosen a magic craftsman for his class, which was one of the least used but paired well with his creativity. As he had always enjoyed building and making things in real life. However, after starting to slow his pace he decided to explore the world instead. Eventually finding himself at the edge of a cliff, that had a small tree for his character to rest under. Sitting there he quietly admired the design of the game, from the flowers in the hunting fields to the dragons that flew in the sky. Indi was amazed by its beauty, wondering what it would be like in such a world.
'If only I could travel to such a place.' He said to himself, staring at the view longingly.
Indi often imagined himself in fantastical situations, thinking about the adventures he would go on if it were true. Wanting an escape from the pressure he constantly felt. At that moment while Indi was still staring lost in thought his friends suddenly went silent, which pulled him from his daydream. Suddenly he noticed a blinding light that started to fill his room. He could hear the screams of his friends coming through his headphones, but before he could say anything they got blown off his head by a strong wind, nearly knocking him from his chair. Standing up alarmed, Indi tried getting out of the room before the door was blown shut, almost hitting him. The light only continued to get brighter forcing him to shield his eyes.
'What on earth is going on!' He thought to himself, struggling with the door.
Before he could open it, however, he started to feel a strange pulling sensation on his body. Immediately after he felt his stomach drop as he lurched forward, forcing his head and limbs back. His vision began filling with colours and lights that surrounded him, forming what looked like a tunnel. Amidst the chaos, Indi caught a glimpse of an opening ahead of him, and it was getting closer. Then just as suddenly as it appeared he was flung out into the open air, and he started to fall. His limbs were flailing around him, and the wind howled in his ears. Terror filled his mind as he caught sight of the ground before him, which was approaching with rapid speed. Until the inevitable happened and he crashed hard causing his world to go dark...
