I left Harry's room and felt as though the air had been sucked out of my lungs. I blamed it on the ventilation in these underground tunnels and not the fact I was face to face with the leader of a gang who had probably just finished doing whatever the hell gangleader's do in their spare time.My immediate assumption was that he would be angry and upset when he caught me in his room. My blood ran cold at the sight of him lowering his gun when he entered the room. It was a surprise to find he wasn't anything like I expected him to be. He was calm and gentle. He was still intimidating, his eyes were dark green and he held a harsh gaze even when his features rested as he waited for me to speak but the way he acted around me was almost as if he knew who I was already.
I was glad I would finally be able to leave my room but that didn't mean I would trust him anymore than I already did. If anything, it would give me the chance to find a way to escape and leave this place. I was lucky nothing had happened to me yet but I wasn't planning on staying long enough to find out.
I didn't sleep for the rest of the night, I wanted to avoid having another nightmare of the same thing. Instead, I lay awake reading the book Harry had kindly gifted me. It felt good having a distraction for now and I ended up reading the majority of the book when morning arrived.
It was hard to tell exactly what time of day it was since there was no natural light to rely on. I figured I should probably start making a note of everything around me in hopes it would help with telling the time. Like this morning, I could hear the sounds of many footsteps walking past my door and I could faintly smell a hint of coffee as they passed by.
I slid my book under my pillow and decided on leaving my room for breakfast instead of waiting for Molly. I may as well get a feel as to where everything was so I could start making plans to leave. I wasn't sure which route to take but I couldn't ignore the rumbling of my stomach as I smelt the breakfast food wafting down the hallways.
Much like I did last night, I tried to remember every turn I made so I wouldn't get lost. I was still wearing the clothes Molly had given me, my sock-covered feet padding against the metal floors as I walked through each hallway.
"June?" Someone spoke, I wasn't sure who it was until I turned around and saw Key standing there, already dressed with a gun held close to his chest.
He quickly walked over to me and looked around to see if anyone else was around, "Who let you out of your room? You'll get into trouble if anyone finds you out here." He strictly tells me.
"H-Harry let me out," I tell him, his head snapping towards me.
"Harry let you out?" I nod.
"He said I could leave my room whenever I wanted. I was h-hungry so I went to get breakfast." I scrunch up my shirt into my fists. Key had been the least aggressive with me since my arrival but I still felt intimidated by him. I mean who wouldn't be intimidated by a man with a gun in his hand?
He placed his arm around my shoulders, "Alright, follow me." He motions his head in the direction I just came in and leads me through the endless halls. The smell of breakfast fills me with excitement the closer we get and I eventually see a room that doesn't seem to be protected by any kind of door like the others were.
It was a huge dining hall with a kitchen beside it, serving up food. Tables were laid out and dozens of people were eating breakfast together. It was hardly believable that this entire place was underground with the number of people it managed to lodge.
Key lead me to a table where I saw Molly sitting with Riley and a few other people. As they look to see Key, their eyes go to me, their faces changing into looks of complete shock.
