The Helicopter

I was shaking, this was it.

We crept closer and closer to the cruise ship.

The training exercise couldn't have gone worse.

The helicopter let off a loud BOOM.

It was slowly falling apart.

There was a chance it would crash into the ship.

I couldn't kill my team. This was my own fault.

"WE ARE NOT LEAVING WITHOUT YOU COMMANDER" Luke (My second in command) cried, his voice crackling over the mic.

"I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT. YOU NEED TO LEAD THE JUMP IF YOU WANT TO SAVE THE OTHERS - THIS IS THE ONLY WAY". I yelled.

I look over. Tears in my squad's eyes. I felt my throat close with irrational sadness.

I pushed my parachute into Mindie's arms.

"PLEASE! THERE MUST BE ANOTHER WAY".

The only words I could manage were-"GOODBYE".

One by one they began to exit the cabin of the chopper.

I let the tears flow. Hard sobs formed.

The chopper blades begin to vibrate heavily.

I won't die crying.I wrenched the throttle away left, barely away from the civilians.

I formed my hand into a salute and raised it in line with my helmet.

With every alarm on the controls sounding, I make a last attempt to engage the auto-pilot as I make my way to the rear of the aircraft.

My only chance at survival is to try and get clear before impact.

 That's my last conscious thought.

BOOM!

Blood began to trickle down my forehead. My vision slowly goes black.
