Lunch Gone Wrong

The science has started. Gwi-nam sat in his chair slouching a bit. You caught him glancing at you from time to time but ignored it as you listened to your teacher, Lee Byeong-chan. Honestly, you could fall asleep from how boring his classes were. Everyone had a textbook and notebook out. Gwi-nam was on his phone completely ignoring the lecture making you frown as he took up a bit of your space on the desk

"A virus...is somewhere between a living organism and a non-living organism. Like a living organism, it adapts to its surroundings and evolves. Everything that evolves in this manner should be considered an independent living organism." Byeong-chan explains while writing on the blackboard.

Gwi-nam moves his desk closer to the front reaching over to Eun-ji and moving her blazer off her shoulder. As he got a black and red marker ready to draw on her back you gripped his wrist bending it slightly making him wince.

"Quit being an ass." You whisper harshly using your foot to push back his desk. He grumbles and you let go of his wrist. Gwi-nam kicks his desk forward again but before you could do anything he grabs both of your wrists with his free hand keeping them under the table. With his spare hand he grabs the markers once more

"Mr. Lee, the textbook says a virus is not an independent living organism." A boy with glasses sat at the front speaks up

"Whether or not it's categorised that way doesn't depend on it's metabolism, but it's will to survive. If it's will is so strong...the instinct to survive actually surpasses intelligence. And eventually the ecosystem is dominated by that will.
Humanity has never once completely defeated a virus. Leucochloridium paradoxum. This parasite's final destination is a bird. The parasite enters a snail and infects it's ocular tentacles. That makes the snail put itself in the path of predatory birds. So the infected snail commits suicide at the whim of the parasite. Tell me.
Now, is that because the snail is less intelligent? It's not. It's because the parasite's will to survive is much stronger than the snail's." Byeong-Chan explains turning on the TV and showing a snail and a parasite

Gwi-nam wrote 'I'm sexy, Lol <3' on the back of Eun-ji's T-shirt making everyone excluding you laugh as you kept trying to squirm your wrists free from Gwi-nam's harsh grip but he didn't budge. Eun-ji started to sob quietly so Gwi-nam grabbed a fistful of her hair pulling her back slightly

"Shut up when the teacher's talking." He whispers to her in a threatening tone. He lets go of her as she complies

"The evolving...and hereditary will to survive is.." Byeong-chan continues ignoring what's going on around him

"Keep your head up." Gwi-nam orders as he continues to colour in the heart.

"...the sole standard by which living organisms are defined." Byeong-chan explains as you furrow your brows looking down at the text book then back up

"So the textbook is wrong?" You question tilting your head. Gwi-nam stops his action to look at you. Byeong-chan looks surprised at your question but then hides it with a smile as he looks at you

"The textbook? It's wrong." He states as his smile fades. You felt an uneasy feeling as his smile slowly faded. Gwi-nam lets go of you with a grin as he leans back in his chair staring at his work he did on Eun-ji's shirt.

Class ended and you rushed out the classroom making Gwi-nam furrow his brows as he wanted to tease you more. As you are speed walking down the hallway you bash into someone

"Y/n?" Su-hyeok mumbles holding your arms as you look up at him.

"Oh, hey! I was looking for you." You chuckle

"Did you hear what happened to Hyeon-ju?" Cheong-san questioned from the side of Su-hyeok

"No, what happened?" You asked as you all walked towards the lunch area

"She came into our classroom all bloody. Su-hyeok had to carry her to the infirmary along with On-jo and I-sak. Apparently she was trying to bite everyone and that Mr. Lee gave her some weird shot." Cheong-san explains as you try imagine and the scene

"She's an asshole anyway." You shrug knowing she was at the scene when Jin-su was thrown over the roof. She showed no remorse nor mercy for his death so why should you show any sign of sympathy towards her event. It's petty, but you don't care. You all sit down at the table you in between Su-hyeok and Cheong-san and sat with some other friends.

The group all shared laughs including you. Su-hyeok sharing his food with you and then stealing the food you were about to eat back. You hit him and he wraps his hands around your waist trying to prevent you from attacking him.

"What!?" I-sak yelled sitting next to On-jo. Everyone turns there heads to her a bit surprised at her random outburst. On-jo pulls her down and everyone goes back to normal. Your table continued to laugh and make jokes while eating.

Su-hyeok disappears somewhere as you stay with Cheong-san going up to put your treys away. That was until he walked up to On-jo. You decided to leave him and put your trey away. Gwi-nam came up behind you putting his trey away.

"You and Su-hyeok, you guys dating?" Gwi-nam questions as you attempt to walk off but he grabs your arm turning you round.

"No, we're not. Plus, why do you ca—" You cut yourself off hearing a bunch of screams and slamming on the door windows. You look over to see a lot of students piling up on the closed glass windows all screaming for help. Everyone in the canteen starts running out. Barging your shoulder. Oddly enough Gwi-nam is also interested in whats going on so he stays by your side watching whats happening

"Shit. Shit." Gwi-nam mumbles to himself grabbing you and pulling you into his chest making sure no students bash into you as the glass shatters and the entire lunch hall becomes a mess.

"Get off!" You shout pushing Gwi-nam off you. You turn back round seeing bloody students biting others. You grimace at the sight. You then turn back to try spot Gwi-nam but he was pushed into the crowd. You bite your lip regretting your decision of pushing him away. Suddenly you feel hands wrap around your waist and you were thrown to the floor with a snarling student thrashing around on top of you...
