Strayed

The lids of my eyes fluttered as I regained consciousness. I barely remember what had happened, I don't even recognize what position I am in when suddenly, a sharp, agonizing pain appears throughout my whole body. I groaned as I felt the sensation getting worse. Not only that, but I had to get up.

I've lost it all this time.

After a few painful minutes of trying to find my way out of the rubble, I finally was able to briefly get a sight of the sunlight. I managed to finally climb out while leaving a few slight scratches on my skin from all the wreckage.

"Tess?" I began calling out for her name. I wasn't even sure if she had gotten out of this whole mess. What if she was still trapped or even worse, crushed.

I'd have to dwell in a pool of my own culpability.

I slightly begin to panic. I try to stay calm, but I can't, without Tess I'd rather suffocate.

"Tess, where are you?" I began to call out for her again. As I was about to dig back into the massive pile of debris to search for her, I hear a name being called out from behind me. Only it wasn't Tess who's voice I had heard. It was his.

"I think I have eyes on someone. Stay centered until I can confirm." I heard him say. I had moved into the corner of the mess where I had found a tattered car. Likewise, I wasn't planning on leaving until I had found my sister. There was a slight problem. I could barely walk. If I have any chance of getting somewhere safe and retrieving my sister, it probably wouldn't be like this. I took a good look at the injury that was preventing me from walking normally. "Great." I sighed. I sprained my ankle. It really wasn't as bad as I thought.

"Sam, scan the area for any civilians around the perimeter. Make sure, when you spot them, you search for any weapons or sustained injuries. We need to round them up quick before there ends up being further collateral damage." ordered the soldier.

"Shit."
