Safe and Sound

Why would you

Why would you tear down my guard

When you put it up to start

How could you ask about the blood and pain

How could you ask about the scars

When you gave them without a thought

You were the voices turning me insane

You were the guns that shot holes in my life

You were the knives that cut me in half

But now you look down

Why would you look down

How could you look down

How dare you look down upon the cold, hard stone

Embedded into the security of the solid earth

You have no right to look

And ask me why I lie down

Because I'm alone

Because I'm at peace

Because I'm safe from your harm

Because now there is no war

Because I've escaped the poisonous love, the toxic reality

Because finally, finally

I'm finally safe and sound
