Hello you.
The first time I see you I know. I know your the love of my life. Walking into the book store, I couldn't take my eyes off of you. You were gorgeous. You had hair down to your collarbones, a seamless makeup routine, obviously, and an ass that just would-
"Joe, do you guys have The fault in our stars? I feel like crying tonight,"
My thoughts are slapped away from my brain when I see Brooke, a seventeen year old girl. My neighbour. She was annoying, frankly she wouldn't leave me, Ethan or this book store alone. Honestly I'm thinking of banning her. That or just burning the place down.
"What?" I questioned, looking over her shoulder. She was a short girl, slightly immature for her age, but she gave me free labour, guess that's my fault. Not to mention she dresses like a man from that - big bang theory show.
Brooke rolled her eyes, "I said, do you- what are you looking at?" She questioned, turning around to see the woman I was staring at, she was currently facing the historical fiction aisle. "Ohh, are you staring at the girl? The one with the.. ass?" She whispered the last bit, taking me slightly off guard.
"W-what? No- I was.. watching the traffic, and don't say ass," I mumbled, Brooke coughed, "loser," I raised an eyebrow, "aren't you supposed to be at school?" I ask, growing slightly more frustrated, she was lucky I tolerated her.
"Aren't you supposed to be working?"
Touché
"Ok, aisle four, left hand side, that's were you'll find your cheesy book," I reply, Brooke giving me a snarky smile before waltzing off, where does she get that attitude. Her mothers a whore, smoking cocaine half the time, and her father? I don't think I've ever even seen him.
"Excuse me.."
I'm brought back to my senses when a soft voice calls, I look over, it's you. I quickly come around the counter, to her side, "hi, what can I do for you," I ask confidently, she smiles, ohhh that smile, "ah, I actually want to grab that copy of 'I must betray you' Sorry I can't reach it," she laughs awkwardly.
"Yeah no problem," also, sad drama your into? Does this mean you just broke up with a boyfriend? Or are you just hormonal.
I realised I'd been starting at middle earth for slightly to long, giving her an awkward smile before reaching up and sliding it off the book shelf, I tried my best given I wasn't much taller than her. A little bit of a dick kick, but I'll make it work. She can wear slip ons at our wedding.
"Thank you so much, I've been looking for this book for such a long time," she speaks, her voice like velvet.
"Don't sweat it, I mean I do work here," I joke, placing a hand into my apron pocket.
"I figured.. Joe," she smiles, glancing at the name tag.
My knees buckle. Almost.
Joe, Say it again, slower, faster, louder.
"My boyfriend actually recommended it, he's a huge book nerd, we went to a book Con last year, it was a huge hit," she laughed,
What!? What boyfriend, you can't have a boyfriend.. you have me!
"Really.. not to be a total downer but I've read it and.. let's just say, I'd rather read the hobbit trilogy,"I joke, a slight sting to my tone.
You frown, why are you upset? Put the boyfriends trash novel down. Ask me for my recommendations.
"Oh, well I mean I'm probably still going to give it a go, my motto is you have to try everything once right?" She breaths, pointing to the counter with her book in hand, "I'll ah actually pay for it now,"
Oh, your loyal... great.
"Hey don't sweat it, everyone has different tastes right,"
I'm sure you taste sweet. Like mint. Cherries.
"Yeah," she says, sliding the book down so I could scan it.
"Ok, ah $14.99," I say simply,
I watch as she goes through her purse, pulling out a card. "Do you guys take card," she asks,
"Yeah. Gotta start keeping up with all this tech am I right?" I smiled, all this tech? What am I eighty?!
But she giggles, leaning over to the eftpos machine, I can see right down her shirt, your doing this on propose. Are you.. flirting with me? She's wearing a beige bra, not very sexy, her skin looks soft, smooth. I imagine running my hands down her body,
I need to get laid.
I glance at her card, heather martin. Honestly not the name I'd imagined her to have. I swipe it across the machine, handing it back to her as she puts in her PIN number, 9854. Not very discrete heather.
She grabs the book, placing it gently on her tote bag, pushing a hair behind her ear, "we'll thanks again for your help Joe, I'll probably be back once I finish this one," she laughs, "I go through five books a week I swear! Anyways.. thank you," she turns on her heel, and before I knew it. She was gone.
"Pussy,"
I look over, still behind the counter at Brooke who'd been lounging on a bean bag meant for display only,
"Where you listening to that whole conversation?!" I ask, slightly pissed off, but I can't help but be amused,
"Maybe, maybe this book is free, I don't know, you tell me," she negotiated, looking out the window,
"Fine," I grumble, "but get home, or school, im not getting yelled at by your mom because you failed maths," is this what it's like to be a father? It's exhausting.
"Im already failing maths, but ok, I'll leave, gonna finish this book so fast, than rub it in your face, you still owe me ice cream from that game of chess I won remember!" She challenged, holding the book under her arm as she pushed the door open, "winners don't forget Joseph!" She called out now on the street.
that kid has balls. That's for sure. And damn, I was hoping she'd forget about the ice cream.
