chapter 1: Thorns

I woke with the sun shining in my eyes. I sat up in my bed rubbing my eyes trying to wake myself. I ran one of my hands through my hair as I glanced over to my phone to see the time. I grunted as I realized it was some what early in the morning. "Damn it..." I muttered to myself flopping back into my bed. Just as I was about to drift off back to sleep my phone began to ring. I reached over and answered my phone to be welcomed by my best friend Callie. Callie was a party going girl who loved her gossip and boys. "Hey babes!! What's your plans!?" She squealed in my ear. Callie was a morning person unless it was after a party. Unlike me I was never a morning person. "Ughh trying to sleep... you know some people are not morning people loves." I reply to her some what mumbling still half way drifted to sleep. "Oh you know you love me stella. Come on get up its only 10:30am. I wanted to meet up and talk about OUR plans for the night!" Callie said drawing out the our so I knew I had no choice on backing out. I began to fall asleep on her when she yelled through the phone at me "STELLA GET YOUR ASS UP! DON'T MAKE ME DRAG YOU OUT THE BED!" I laughed at her as I said okay okay and sat up in my bed. "So where are we meeting up at?" Callie got quit for a minute making the Humm noise as if thinking about where to go. "How about by the falls?" She asked. I told Callie sure as I hung up the phone and got out of my bed stretching. The falls was a spot me and Callie found when we was 14. It was back in the woods a little ways from the park. We came across it when my mom left me and I was upset. I use to wonder off in the woods for hours upset and Callie would come with me to calm me. After we found the place it became our secret relax spot. It was a beautiful waterfall that was about 10 feet high and fell into a small little pound.

When I finally made my way to the falls Callie was there sitting on a big bolder staring at the water fall. Her platinum blond hair was in a pony tail and was blowing in the wind. "Hey cal." I spoke making her snap out of her daze. She turned to me and smile widely "Hello stel."
"So what's the plans that are so great you had to wake me for?" I said with a huge grin on my face so she knew I was playing with her. She patted the spot beside her on the bolder for me to come sit. I climbed up and sat beside her as she began to stare back at the falls and I joined her in the view. "Well there is a party going on tonight at jakes. And you need to get out... and I'm not going to the party alone. I need my babes there for me to make sure I don't do something stupid you know." She said turning her head to look at me with puppy eyes. "Ugh.... I don't know cal." I said messing with her. "Oh come on please stella. Please please please!" She whimpered giving the biggest pout she could. "Hu... fine but only because I love you." I said smacking her in the arm and laughing. I jumped off the bolder and began to walk around the pond enjoying it's relaxing vibe and view. On the edge of the wood line something caught my eyes. Something of course that wasn't there any time before though it has been a while since I've came to the falls. It was a beautiful rose bush unlike any other I have ever seen. The roses were black as midnight and seemed to glimmer in the sunlight. "What are you looking at hun?" Asked Callie now peering over my shoulder at the bush. "Oh my god...." she whispered placing one of hands over her mouth and the other on my shoulder. "It's beautiful... I wonder how this ever got here." I said to no one really inparticular. The rose bush seemed to have a pull to it that drew me in unlike anything before. Without knowing or thinking I reach down to pick a rose. As I picked the rose a thorn pricked my finger causing me to drop the rose and pulling me out my trance the bush had appon me. "Ouch! What the hell that hurt like never before!" I said jumping back grabbing my finger. Callie took my hand and looked at it. "Damn stella it got you good. I never seen a thorn get some one so bad" Callie said looking at the cut as it began to bleed more severe. I took my finger and stuck it in my mouth and sucked on it while I picked back up the fallen rose but more carefully being sure to not touch a thorn. "Stella... look!" Callie said pointing at the bush. I turned and looked at it as it shriveled up from where I plucked the rose. The plant slowly withered up before our eyes. "What tha...." I began to say as I felt a sudden rush of dizziness take me over and my surroundings began to become black. The last thing I heard was Callie yelling at me to wake up.

I awoke from a dream of darkness and silver eyes staring at me and a masculine voice calling my name to come to them. I found my self in a hospital bed with I.V and not sure what else hooked up to my arm. Callie sat beside me texting on her phone deep into what ever conversation she was having with only god knows who. A nurse walked in the door pulling my attention away from Callie and causing Callie to look up from her phone. "Stella Contour it's good to see your awake now. Your friend Callie brought you here saying you passed out after picking a rose and wouldn't wake." She said calmly look at me from above her glasses. " some how the rose was poisonous and pricking your finger amongst it caused the poison to go straight into your blood flow. We have antibiotics going into your system to fight off the infection and it seems to be doing its job rather fast. How ever we have never heard of this kind of case so we are observing you for a few more hour to make sure everything is okay and then we can release you." She said smiling at me now. I shook my head okay and she turned to leave. "Oh my god stella you had me so scared!!! Don't you ever do that to me again!!!" Callie yelled at me with fear and relief writen all over her face. " I'm sorry cal. It ain't like I knew the rose was poisonous and planned on falling out." I said with a huff and crossing my arms over my chest. I knew she was just scared for me and worried but she acts like I planned on this happening or like I knew it would.
"Hu... I'm sorry stel you just scared me okay? I'm sorry I shouldn't have yelled at you." Callie said getting up out the chair and sitting on the bed with me. " it's fine cal I know you was just worried and scared about me. What time is it any ways?
Callie pulled out her phone to look at the time. "It's only 12:30pm. Still plenty of time to get ready for tonight." She said winking at me and smiling. "Hu... you still wanna go?" I said drained from the thought of still going. Callie's smile fell as she looked at me. "well I mean yes of course but only if your up to it. I mean I won't go if you don't wanna. We can stay at your house and watch Netflix and eat everything in the house?" Callie said waiting on my reaction. "Ugh you know what cal your lucky I love you." I said half smiling at her and shoving her. Callie smiled widely and jumped off the bed in excitement then stopped for a second and turned to me "So we're going to the party!?" She asked. "Yes babes." I replied amused by her. She began to jump up and down again excited and running around the room.
