I lay my head against the cold window. It was another chilly and rainy day in Hartford, and I was pressed for time. I slept through my alarm, took longer than expected to get ready, and it took forever to find a cab.

I sighed. Jessi was going to be panicked. That's what she does so I should be used to it by now. After all, if there wasn't someone to actually treat us like a boss would, In a Snip would be non-existent.

"Five minutes until your destination! Get ready to make a run for it." the cantankerous cabby called out, tapping on the divider between the cabby and the passenger.

I began to slide my cobalt pea coat on to my body. I didn't bother buttoning it, it would just be a bother later on.

Just as I had resettled, the cab screeched to a stop- sending me forward.

"We're here. Pay up time, kid." The cabby said, sliding open the divider. He stuck out his hand, waiting for me to pay him.

I dug one ten and one five dollar bills out my cross-body bag and handed it to the cabby. I got of the cab and quickly made a run for the doors of In a Snip: the salon that my best friends opened after college.

In a Snip was practically my second home. There was always something that seemed welcoming about the place- something special. Perhaps it was that the five of us had built the it practically from the ground up.

When we first purchased the building that is now known as In a Snip, Jessi, Taryn, Evie, Lilly and I had only been out of college for about a year. In that time, we had gathered enough money and sponsors to purchase a building. We bought a medium size brick building on Broad Street. We left the brick was exposed and added white and blue speckled tile. We added in six built in wall tables, leaving one for each of us and an extra. We decorated with light blue, mint green and pale yellow furniture.

I was greeted by the shops logo of a girl getting her hair "snipped" that had been printed on our glass door, along with our business hours and phone number. I pulled the doors open and scampered inside to escape the rain.

Just as I thought, I was greeted by Jessi's thin and tan figure pacing in the doorway.

"I made it!" I called out to my friends. I then hung up my coat on the white coat rack located in the corner by the door.

"Well it took you long enough. Now get ready for today. Your first appointment is at 10:30." Jessi stated.

I headed over to my station. It was in the back corner, next to Evie's and across from the bathroom.

"I'm glad that you made it when you did, Mil." Evie said, using my nickname. My real name is Millie, which is just way too old fashioned for my taste. "If you would have been any later Jessi would have exploded."

"Yeah. I tried to get here sooner but I slept through my alarm, then we got stu-."

"Mil, we know the drill by now. Just go ahead and fix your mane. No one likes hair after a rainstorm." Taryn said, placing a hand on my left shoulder.

I took a glance at myself in the mirror and saw that Taryn was right. My hair was a mess. A mess that needed to be fixed ASAP.

I quickly got to work. I took out the blow dryer and plugged it in. It took forever to dry my thick hair on low, so I changed the temperature to medium to speed up the process. I then straightened it and began to braid back the sides of my almost-black hair. I pinned both sides back and checked the final result. My hair was back to looking decent, and I was ready to go.
