POV EDA
"Kids, it's time to get back home," said my grandmother Semiha from the window of her house, where she could see us on the beach.
"Let's go, grandma's orders!"
We catch up on our towels and head back home. It was the end of a beautiful summer day. A typical summer day that I get to spend with Serkan, my best friend since I can remember. He was two years older than me and, unfortunately, he moved to Paris with his family a couple of years ago. He always comes back to Şile to spend holidays with his grandmother.
I'm lucky to have someone like him in my life. He always protects me, he taught me how to swim and not be afraid of the water. He's a good friend.
"All right Madame, you're home." He says.
"Thank you, I'll see you tomorrow!"
And we were together the next day and the next few weeks of summer until he had to return to Paris with his parents and little sister.
That's when I started to count the days until the next holiday, which was Christmas. It was like this every single year.
"Are you even listening to me?"
Melo's tone makes me come to my senses again.
"Sorry, girl. Tell me again, please." I feel bad for being so lunatic today. Tomorrow he's coming back again for another summer vacation and I can't stop thinking about how it is going to be. I'm so excited, it's been a long time since we've seen each other.
"Ok girl, here we go again... how I was saying, there's going to be this party that we should go to tonight. I mean, come on, everyone is going. It's summer and we need to chill a bit!" Melo explains to me. "Also, your brother is going, so..."
"So the point here is that my brother is going, huh?" I tease her.
"What? No!" She's blushing. "I meant that if he's going we can go with him in his car, we can drink how much we want..."
"That's fine Melo, I know that you have a little crush on my brother."
"What? Just shut up, that's not true!"
"Don't worry, canım, I won't tell Kaan okay? But you don't have to pretend with me. I've noticed a while ago. You should have told me tho."
By the expression on her face, I can see that she's done trying to argue with me.
"Is that so obvious?" She asks me and I confirm with a nod. "Are you mad at me?"
"Why should I be mad at you, girl?"
"I'm your bestie, he's your brother. Isn't it awkward for you?"
"Not at all, I'm happy that my bestie and my brother could be a thing in the future. I love both of you and as long as you're happy, that's all that matters to me. But please, I'd rather if we don't talk about your... you know, intimacy..."
"Oh my god, Eda!" She screams my name. "I barely speak with Kaan, why are you talking about intimacy?"
We both chuckle. Once again I look into the see in front of us and can't help but remember all the good memories I have in this place. It's amazing how Serkan and I have been friends for years. We met because of our grandmothers. They are great friends. Actually, we all are like family. But the two of us have been inseparable since we met. We created such a deep bond. And even with all the distance, we always manage to keep this bond intact.
I know that Kaan is jealous sometimes. He says that he was the first to know Serkan and that they were best friends first.
"So, about the party... are we going or?" Melo interrupts my thoughts.
