It's been like 40 minutes while I'm seated here, I keep on scrolling through my phone texts, WhatsApp and other Apps.
I'm trying to get myself busy unfortunately my phone blacks out. Oh hell no! How I hate to be in new places with no phone to use!
I usually hide all my nervousness while using the phone but now I don't know how I'll do without it. I hope this roommate comes soon!
Anybody who passes by can easily know I'm isolated, I've got nowhere to stare.
Soon some college boys who seem to be residents of this hostel, pass me and and take seats right in front of me to watch soccer. How I wish I was a soccer fan! I'm trapped here without anything fun to do.
My mind advises me to watch along with them, may be who knows I might find it interesting. I do it!
Guess what my mind lied to me, I still don't like it.
My eyes roam around and catch a glance of a well built young man, coming towards where I'm seated. It seems he's a gym rat! Like that's all he does all day long. That's what his body shape tells me. He's got that rich tanned skin and he's got those familiar model effects!
Oh wow, I love him already! I want to stop my eyes from staring but I can't. He's too cute to ignore!
His strides already tell it all that he's got confidence and knows about his charming looks.
He walks to me with a lingering smile. "Hi girl, you're new here?"
"Yeah." I reply and realize all this time I've been drooling at him.
"Does it clearly show that I'm new here, do you think everyone can tell?" I sheepishly smile.
He smirks. "Yeah, it's written all over your face. Plus you might want to go unpack your luggage.
"Do you mind i grab a seat close to you." He gently requests and I nod.
I'm used of the bad boys who are rude and who don't ask for a seat. He's clearly unpredictable!
He sits right beside me and starts off a conversation by asking me if I'm a soccer fan to which I respond that I don't even know why I'm watching it in the first place. He chuckles, quite impressed with my answer.
He tells me that his love for soccer is immeasurable unlike me. Soon we start chatting about our families, I pull out my phone and show him my family photos.
I know you might be asking yourself, I thought your phone had blacked out? Yeah fortunately my phone can be restarted and it always has this extra 1% stored in case I need something real quick from my phone.
We talk for about 45 minutes and it's like we already know each other. The conversation just flows naturally and he leaves after asking me my room number and promising to check on me when he gets back.
Fortunately I do not wait any longer as my so-called roommate shows up and make me forget all the waiting by her tenderness and smooth welcome. She helps by carrying all my stuff to our room.
I had quite many things because I was lucky to have a mother who is clearly talented at object maintenance. She kept her hostel things for me to use when I join college so I didn't have to shop alot.
Moving right into my room, I can't believe my eyes! It is such a pretty room with nice comfy beds, self-contained and enough space. My mom did all the booking, I'm glad she chose a good hostel for me.
My roommate helps me unpack for the next few minutes as we talk.
She's such a kind and funny girl. She's called Simone. She tells me how she prayed to get a good roommate and I'm shocked because I also prayed for the same thing.
Simone helps me lay my bed and goes on to tell me a lot of funny stories. My ribs crack because of her jokes. Suddenly we hear a knock on the door. "I got it." I rush to open.
Guess what it's the charming guy, I just met! I don't know why my heart pumps a little harder when I set eyes on him.
His eyes are intense for some reason.
I give him a 'come in gesture'
Our rooms have no couches so I allow him to sit on my well laid bed.
"Simone, meet Byron and Byron meet Simone, my roommate."
Simone looks like his charming code has already caught her. She goes ahead to ask us how we know each other. I explain that we just met when I was waiting for her to come.
She teasingly say. "I see, you already have made friends. I like people who adjust easily to a new environment."
Byron jazzed her how he found me miserably watching soccer which I don't like but was forced to because I was waiting for her. Byron makes fun of how I looked like a typical confused freshman and they laugh about it.
It's amazing how they are going along easily.
She adds, " Speaking of that we have a party for welcoming freshmen tomorrow, trust me you don't want to miss."
This freaks me out because I don't do parties and these two look like party animals.
" I don't think I'll be going besides I feel tired I need a rest now."
Their excitement slowly fades as they watch me get my books organized.
"C'mon if you're one of those girls who don't party, this is worth it. Speaking with experience as a senior." Byron pleads.
And Simone does the same "C'mon you'll like it."
"I'll think about it." I say with a low tone.
They both excitedly shout. "Yes, we are going."
"Let me leave you to rest, see you tomorrow." Byron leaves.
At the shut of the door, Simone turns to me. "How do you meet such cool guys on the first day? You're so lucky!"
I slip on my pajamas. " I don't see what's so cool about him to keep you talking. He's just like all the other gym rats nothing much."
I didn't know that college would give me a difficult start, clashing with my values already! I don't party everyone knows, my homies also know it.
