Chapter 1 Surprisingly Badass

Unlike most teenagers Carla, the somewhat main character of this story, finds herself working at a carnival. Like the ones with clowns who fit in the tiny cars. The ones who have elephants working their ass off, only to be thrown peanuts. The ones who torture poor lions to do some dumb shit the kings of the jungle should not be doing.

While looking for a little kid who seems to be hiding from his mom, Carla wonders to herself. Thinking about how selfish she is for working at this dumb place. It's not like she wanted to be here. Her friends had convinced her to work, saying the 17 dollars a hour were great.

She trusted them. After all, Jamie, Janice, and Andy had been right about many things before this. Carla was kind of a follower, well more of a pushover. She followed what everyone did and said. She never argued even if she thought it was wrong. And she most certainly did not forget to butter someone up. It's not her fault of course, her friends were way cooler than her.

Jamie and Janice are twins with actually good parents. They look like the cool kids from the movies who most people had crushes on when they were younger. Wavy black hair, tan skin, and some pretty built bodies. The two say they never worked out a day in their lives. This is true, but since they used to work with their parents they've gained some muscle.

The two sometimes wonder if they could ever escape poverty, and help their immigrant parents retire young instead of waiting until their bodies just give up on them. They both look at their parents with pity, wishing their superhuman strengths wouldn't be going away so soon. But then again they are pretty cool twins so why does that matter?

Anywho, Andy is a pretty troubled-looking teen. And by troubled-looking I, the narrator, mean he's ugly. Red curly hair, big bucked teeth, and a weird-looking butt chin. He doesn't even need to wear makeup to be his own attraction in the carnival.

He tries to make up for it by being funny, it's the only way that will ever make him feel like he's worth something. People laughing at his jokes rather than just him. He's pretty also rich, so it doesn't matter that he's ugly anyways.

Carla is a pretty normal-looking girl. She has dark blonde hair which is kind of choppy, normal teeth that look crooked if you stare at them for long enough, and a round face that makes you think of a basketball but after a while, you get used to it. Basically an "average" teenage girl.

Some insight, she hates that word. It's all she's been her whole life. You won't find anyone who has strong thoughts about her. No one really feels anything about her. That's why she hangs around those three. She doesn't even have anything that makes it okay for her to ignore those feelings.

Moving on, she didn't like seeing the poor animals in the state they were at so she refrained from hanging out near them. Sheh had stationed herself at the ticket stand. She doesn't mind being there, aside from the occasional 13-year-old boy who seems to have a crush on her, she spends most of her time being uninterrupted.

Jamie works at the Watergun Arena, he tells anyone who will listen that it's the best place to be at. Since he does often see people trip over the wire that leads to the boat ride. He also doesn't mind playing the game when the carnival is almost empty.

Janice works at the food station, she's always had a thing for baking and cooking. If it weren't for the fact that she can't venture out too much from some possible job opportunities she would be a chef. Her lines are always the longest during Fridays, not that she minds. It makes her feel much more important than the rest.

Andy doesn't really have a permanent job as of now. Since he isn't really the best at anything. His first job at the carnival was revoked because he was scared of the lion. The second one because he seemed to be making much more of a mess than actually cleaning it up. The third was because he was afraid of getting shot at with the darts for the balloons. And his last job because he almost caused a lawsuit on the teacup ride. Making a kid be flung out, only because he wanted to impress a girl. She was not impressed.
