"You really need to brush your quills,dude,they look awful" mighty told sonic,the latter huffed in annoyance

'If you have such a problem with them then why don't YOU brush them?!' Sonic signed and crossed his arms

Tails stared at the two from across the room,he was able to notice how Sonic tapped his foot,but not in the same way he did when he was annoyed.
"Are they arguing again?" He jumped slightly at Ray's voice

"Yeah" he answered

"Let me guess, Mighty tried to tell Sonic to take care of himself again?" Tails nodded and Ray sighed,then smiled "wanna go somewhere away from these two until they're done?" he gestured towards the door

"Okay!" Tails smiled,his namesakes swishing so quickly it looked like he was going to start flying
They walked over to the door but Ray stopped and looked back at Sonic and Mighty "hey Mighty! I'm going to show Tails around!" Mighty looked at them and gave a thumbs up, once they left he looked back at Sonic who was signing something about him worrying too much about him,then, he walked over to a box.
The hedgehog stopped and stared at him in confusion,he opened it and started looking through it before pulling out a brush.
He turned around and walked over to Sonic.

'you know I wasn't serious when I told you to brush my quills,right?' he signed, quills slightly tensing

"Yeah, but they aren't going to brush themselves and I doubt that you will brush them any time soon" he answered with a shrug

'of course I'm not! Not only do I not have time but have you ever tried to brush your quills yourself?'

"I'm an armadillo,I don't have quills so it's kinda hard for me to brush my own quills"

'Well it's VERY uncomfortable! Trust me,I tried it'

"Will you let me brush them,then?"

Sonic thought for a second before nodding and sitting down, Mighty sat down behind him and started to brush through his quills carefully.
He could see how Sonic relaxed a bit.

"Are you sure they're okay?" Tails asked once the house wasn't in view

"Yeah! They weren't really arguing y'know?" He said calmly, "In fact,I bet they're probably joking about it right now!"

"If you say so" Tails answered and looked at the ground with a worried look,Ray noticed and reassured him "Trust me, I've been around them long enough to know that's just how they treat each other,plus, neither of them would hurt someone -let alone each other- unless they had a reason"

Tails smiled,now looking more relaxed and he smiled back

Mighty smiled as he heard Sonic purr,well it sounded more like clicking but he assumed that's just how his purrs sounded,the hedgehog had relaxed completely and his tail was now wagging.

He liked seeing him so calm,it was rare to ever see him still and from what Sonic and Tails had told him,He hadn't gotten the chance to relax like this in a long while.
They were always constantly fighting Eggman and, unlike when he met them,he had to make sure Tails was safe most of the time.
It wasn't the kid's fault though,he couldn't do anything about it and,in a way, It reminded him of when Ray was younger,he always had to take care of him to the point that he was alert of the smallest of noises.
and that was only made worse when they met eggman,sure,Sonic was there to make sure nothing happened to Ray but he had a habit of running around and never staying in one place for more than 2 seconds.

At Least he seemed to really care about Tails,even to the point that he slowed down for him,yeah,he definitely cared about him if he was willing to slow down.
it wasn't only that though,in the past 2 days he had seen how Sonic constantly made sure he was okay.
It was obvious to anyone who paid attention to them for more than a second how close the two were,it reminded him a lot of the type of relationship he'd seen some siblings have.

Suddenly he felt the purring stop,he raised an eyebrow but kept brushing his quills.
Sonic gestured for him to stop and he did

"Sonic? are you okay?" he asked, sounding more worried than he wanted to.
the hedgehog turned around to look at him with a look of...worry? he wasn't sure what it was

'Mighty?'

"yea?"

'say,what would you do if I -hypothetically- had a crush on you?'

"Wait, do you have a crush on me?"

Sonic's ears flattened 'maybe' he almost seemed embarrassed to admit it.

"Hey,no need to be ashamed!" he smiled,but sonic avoided his gaze "what's wrong?" it was so unlike him to ever act like this,hell, he was pretty sure he's never seen him look even close to ashamed or embarrassed

'don't you think it's weird?'

Mighty stared at him in confusion "what do you mean?"

'it's just that i heard a lot of mobians say it was weird to be a man and like another man and i thought that maybe there was something wrong with me' Mighty grabbed his hands gently

"Hey,there's nothing weird about it and there's definitely nothing wrong with you" it's interesting how someone as confident as Sonic actually believed things like that. Sure,he totally wasn't as confident as he acted but the armadillo never thought that such things would make him feel ashamed.
Sonic's ears perked up a bit,he smiled softly and Mighty let go of his hands 'so does that mean that you're not angry or weirded out?'

"Of course not! Plus i feel the same way"

His ears perked up 'really?!'

"Yeah,i just didn't know how to tell you"

He smiled and chuckled 'Can't believe i was so worried for no reason!'
Mighty also smiled,the hedgehog's smile was gone as quick as it appeared 'so,are we y'know, a thing?'

"Only if you want to be"

The smile was back,he laid his head on the armadillo's chest 'you know that you can just say yes,right?' Mighty chuckled but he didn't answer,instead,he started brushing through his quills with his hand,making sure to not get poked.
Sonic purred happily as his tail wagged.

Ray slowly opened the door,he looked around before gesturing for Tails to come in
It was quiet,he went to the living room only to find Mighty asleep on the ground with Sonic whose head was laying on his chest,he looked back at Tails and gestured for him to be quiet to which the fox nodded.
They slowly and as quietly as possible made their way to Ray's room,he didn't want to wake up either Sonic or Mighty,they needed to rest,especially Sonic.
