(🕯)...BACK TO YOU. 001, nice to meet you
— in which alora meets someone in an unexpected circumstance
The first day of school was always awful, no matter the circumstances, people scrambling to find their classes, being forced to talk in god-awful class ice-breakers, not to mention the everlasting stress of trying to find people to befriend in classes. Now, what was worse than the first day of school? Being a transfer student on their first day of senior year. And for Choi Alora, she was living in that unthinkable scenario.
The girl stared back in the mirror, staring at every inch of her porcelain complexion. Her eyes darted from every mole to each small imperfection she could find on her face. The girl had been in the bathroom for the last twenty minutes, trying to avoid the awkwardness of sitting in the principal's office with her mother talking about the enrollment process.
Alora grabbed her phone out of her pocket, "8:25." She bit her nail, placing her phone on the sink. All her nerves surged through her body, causing her to take a deep breath and look down into the sink. All she wanted was a moment of quiet in her own head, but just her luck, there was no such thing as a quiet place in high school. All she could hear were the echoes of people in the hallway talking and the small sound of a leaky sink dripping water into the sink drain.
She could hear her heartbeat in her ears, she could cry. All this stress, moving across the country, leaving behind everything she ever knew, coming into a new school, just to find out she was already a week behind in school.
Tears formed in her tear ducts, looking back in the mirror, she could feel the overwhelming urge to cry begin to take over her body. Just then, a small creek echoed through the bathroom, causing Alora to rush into a bathroom stall.
The sounds of platforms pounding against the concrete floor until the sound stopped abruptly. Alora took notice of a shadow by where the sinks were, she now knew she'd be in here a while considering she refused to leave until the other girl left.
Alora looked up in the stall, realizing there was stuff written all over the doors and sides of the stall. Her hand grazed over the marker-grained words, reading some over.
"Who is a bigger attention whore than Shin Yuna?"
A sudden wham was heard against the stall Alora sat in, she looked down near the bottom crack of the stall, black converses were facing towards her. Her heart dropped into her stomach, she tried to speak but couldn't manage to think of anything to think.
"Wonyoung, if you're thinking of writing some shit about me being a boring lesbian bitch again, I would suggest you didn't." The girl finally spoke, the angry diction in her voice portrayed her anger very clearly.
"I-I'm not...Wonyoung." There it was, the complete silence Alora had been longing for. The sounds of the girls' shoes falling to the floor filled the room quickly causing Alora to open the stall door.
Alora was now face to face with another girl, she stood a few inches taller than her, her black hair was short near her shoulders, her a small but prominent nose, and shimmery brown eyes. The two girls stood toe to toe for a moment in silence once again.
The girl analyzed Alora, she could clearly tell she was crying, but why? Had she made her cry? She scratched the back of her neck, "Sorry," Her eyes went to the floor, "I thought you were someone else." She backed away from the door, giving the other girl room to move out of the stall.
Alora reached her hand to place it on the girl's shoulder, but quickly redacted it as she figured it would be weird to comfort the girl who just accidentally threatened her, "It's okay, no worries." She murmured under her breath.
The two girls both made their way to the bathroom sinks, standing next to each other. There was an awkward silence in the bathroom, which for once, Alora did not want silence.
"Did I make you cry?" The girl suddenly asked.
Alora whipped her head over to her, "No!" She exclaimed, this now caused the other girl to look over at her with a gloomy expression, "It's my first day, I'm just stressed out." She quickly explained to the girl.
The short-haired girl nodded, "Yeah, I figured. I've never seen you around."
Alora nodded at her words, now looking back at the mirror again, "Yeah."
"Are you a freshman?" She asked.
"Senior."
"Oh." Her voice sounded shocked, "I'm sorry, you're just so..."
"Short? I know."
The girl continued to look over at the girl, she could tell that wasn't the first time someone mistook her age. She felt bad for offending her, "I'm Mihi, Seul Mihi. I'm a senior too."
Alora felt a sudden weight come off her shoulders, though in the time she knew this girl she had threatened her and mistook her age due to her appearance, she felt better knowing one person rather than none at all, "I'm Shin Alora."
"You're name is so pretty." Mihi smiled, and a grin appeared on Alora's face. Mihi felt she had now made things right, "I'll see you around Alora. It was nice to meet you."
"Yeah, you too Mihi." Alora chuckled as she watched Mihi exit the bathroom. The girl suddenly remembered she was supposed to be with her mother picking classes. She checked the time on her phone, 8:35, "Fuck." She spoke rushing out of the bathroom.
