Carl walks through the woods of Alexandria, looking for Enid. They're outside the gates. They're not supposed to be but he had to find her before she gets hurt. He always sees her climbing over the gate to escape her crowded life of troubles and worries, he needed an escape too.

"Carl!" He hears her shout out to him in the distance. But he can't spot her.

"I know you're following me. Again. And you're going the wrong way."

"You knew?"

"You're very loud." He then steps on a twig, snapping it loudly.

"Can you go back? To be honest you scare me..."

"You shouldn't sneak out by yourself. Two people just died."

"Come on." She emerges from behind one of the trees. Her hands gripping onto the straps of her backpack. His eyes meet hers, she gazes at him with such sass and attitude, she's so attractive to him. He feels like he could just melt to the floor.  "People always die, do you know that?"

"We should go back." He says.

"Why?" She tilts her head. He can't really think of an answer. Why should they go back?

"What do you do out here anyways?" He asks changing the subject.

She shrugs, "Same thing as you." She runs off. He smiles as he runs behind her playfully. They suddenly feel at peace. Two hearts running playfully like they should. They're kids, raised in this brutal apocalypse. And as they race through the woods together, they share an invisible bond in their minds.

They stop in their tracks spotting a walker. Their smiles fade in remembrance of the real world.

They hide behind a tree, she digs through her backpack eventually grabbing a tiny alarm clock, she winds it up before throwing it at the walker, it hits the ground, it groans trying to find it.

She smiles and runs away from it again Carl following her. They find a fallen log and they sit down at it beside each other, out of breath from running.

"We're supposed to be out here. We're supposed to feel like this." She says, her smile fading.

"I don't want to forget and.. Running makes me feel better."

"I can't forget. I dream about it.. Being in the forest, with them." He says.

"I do too.."

"Ron's a good guy." Ron Anderson. Enid's ex boyfriend.

"He is..." Damn it, Carl, why'd you bring him up?! Carl thinks to himself in disappointment.

"Does he knows you come out here?"

"No I- he wouldn't understand." She sighs.

"Why do I scare you?" He asks.

"I don't know.. you just do." She digs through her backpack again and takes out a knife, starting to fiddle with it in her hands.

"Cool knife."

"It was my mom's."

'What happend to you?  before you got there.. To Alexandria."

"Does it matter?"

"It does.. I know. Something bad has  happened to me too.." he tells her. She turns her head to look into his eyes. These two distinct souls at once merging at a state of vulnerability. Then they hear the groans of walkers. Snapping them back into reality, they flinch at the sounds standing up.
