"Uki? Uki!" Fulgur called. He frantically ran around their apartment looking for his boyfriend. Then, he ran into the bathroom. And there was Uki. Lying on the ground with his eyes closed. His body was cold and he was shivering, Fulgur hurriedly looked at Uki's back, and it was exactly as he had feared, a pair of white, shining wings were growing out of Uki's back, poking out of his sweatshirt "Uki!!!" Fulgur dropped to his knees and gently shook his frail body.
"F-fuu-fuu-chan?" Uki said groggily. He grabbed onto Fulgur's sweatpants. "P-please..."
"Don't worry. I'll get help!" Fulgur quickly dialed 911. He grabbed Uki's hand and felt for his pulse. It was weak but it was there. The person on the other side of the phone told Fulgur that an ambulance was coming and to put a jacket onto Uki and bring him outside. Uki was still shivering violently as Fulgur dashed down the stairs.
"Don't worry Uki. Everything will be alright." Fulgur sprinted out the front door and there was an ambulance waiting for Uki. The paramedics placed Uki on a stretcher and told Fulgur to go inside the ambulance. All he could do was pray that the disease wouldn't consume his lover.
In the city they lived in was a disease called the Tenshibyou Disease. It caused angelic wings to slowly grow on a person's back over time, but the wings consume the energy of the human that they are attached to. Often ending in death. But something was strange, the wings grew over time and when Fulgur had found Uki, the wings were already quite large...could Uki have been hiding them this whole time? Fulgur glanced at Uki's pale face, how could he not have noticed? He was a terrible boyfriend if he couldn't even notice a pair of wings sprouting from his lover's back.
When they arrived at the hospital, Uki was immediately rushed inside. Fulgur was asked to wait outside as doctors examined Uki. Fulgur knew that there was no cure for the disease, but the doctors probably knew a way to slow it, right?
Hours passed but Fulgur was still sitting in the waiting area, jolting up whenever a doctor walked passed, and asking the front desk over and over again about Uki. Finally, a woman walked towards him holding a clipboard.
"Mr. Ovid? Are you Mr. Violeta's guardian?"
"Yes, yes I am. Please, is he going to be alright?"
"Unfortunately, you must know that there is no cure for the Tenshibyou Disease, we can't do anything about it. Usually we can prevent it from spreading any further for a few years, but considering the fact that the disease has progressed so far...we can't really do anything except give him some medicine. The medicine should numb the pain and he should be able to go about his daily life for at least three month. We're terribly sorry, but I think the best thing to do is enjoy the last few months and wait." Fulgur looked at the doctor. Her eyes were solemn and he knew she wasn't joking. They sat in silence for a few moments as Fulgur processed what she had said. His Uki...the man whom he promised to protect was now going to die.
"P-please, is he at least awake? I want to see him."
"You may, but don't overestimate his ability to speak and move."
Fulgur followed her down the hall and into a room. Uki lay on the hospital bed, still looking extremely pale but he wasn't shivering or in pain anymore.
