Bucky's pov
"Well, it was nice meeting you," she says as she grabs my hand and shakes it. I look at her dumbfounded as she starts to run down the street. This woman just grabbed my hand and shook it. Does she not know that's not allowed? Does she not know that you're not allowed to touch a knight unless they grant the permission? Does she not have any manners what so ever?
A group of men run down the same street as her and I go to follow them, but stop at the sound of my name being called. I look over to see Steve calling me over.
I bow slightly when I reach him. "Yes your highness?" I look up at him and his wife, Natasha, who has her arm looped through his.
"That woman that you were just talking to... what did she say?" He asks.
"Nothing much. She called me a soldier and shook my hand, so she may be new to town." I shrug my shoulders. That had to be the only possible answer for her behavior.
Steve sighs softly while Natasha looks like she's about to laugh. "Is there something wrong?" I ask and he shakes his head.
"No, there's nothing wrong. If you come in contact with that woman again, I want you to arrest her and bring her to me," he says and I look at him confused before a poster catches my attention in the building behind him.
A drawing of her lies in the center under the word 'WANTED' and my eyes widen at the realization. That's where I had recognized her from. The posters scattered around town. I had been in the close proximity of a criminal and let her get away like she was nothing.
"If you would like me to chase after her—"
"That won't be necessary. She's not someone you can chase and catch. If you knew where she was and ambushed her it would work, but chasing her on foot would lead to a dead end," Steve says then motions to the four men walking out of the street, scratching the back of their head as they look around confused. One is holding their jaw that's red from a hit. Another one is holding the back of his arm as he keeps his head down, embarrassed.
"I don't understand." I turn back to them confused.
"That's alright. It will all makes sense in time," Natasha says and I nod my head. "Why don't you go enjoy more of the festival?"
"Thank you My Queen, My King," I bow again before turning on my heals and heading back to the crowd.
Steve and I have known each other since we were children. My father was his fathers knight. When the time came for Steve to step up and be king, he had to choose someone to be the leader of his army and he choose me. He's my best friend... my brother.
A few kids run past me and wave with a grin on their face and chocolate covering their fingers as they hold a chocolate bar in their hands. I smile softly and wave back.
I've always wanted a family. A wife. To be in love with someone so much that you can't imagine a live without them. But knights can't get married unless the king approves of it or pairs you with someone. And I've decided to spend my life devoting it to my kingdom. A family would just distract me from protecting Steve and everyone else.
But maybe someday I'll meet a nice girl. The most kind and nicest girl in the kingdom and we'll fall in love. That's all I hope for.
"Bucky!" I turn at the sound of my name being called and see Sam walking over to me. "There's talk of a robbery tonight at Lord Starks house."
My eyes narrow as I look over at the lord himself walking with his wife on his arm and daughter holding his free hand. "Where did you hear this information?" I ask.
