Never Let Me Go~ (Shoto Todoroki x Depressed!Reader)

Yh so basically just sh comfort :)

2nd Person:

You weren't in school today - of course, Todoroki was worried for you. 

You never skipped a day, even when you were sick he had to force you to stay home, so if you were ill, he'd either know about it from your complaining, or know because he had to prevent you coming in. But today, you didn't show up at all... if it were anyone else, he'd glance over it, not really caring, but even if he hadn't told you, you meant an awful lot to him. So, after school, he made it his task to go up to your dorm and check on you. As he knocked on your door, he was a little worried when you didn't answer straight away - so he tried it again. 

But nothing happens.

Now he was scared - what if something had happened to you, and he couldn't help?! He tried finding a way in, and decided to try getting in through the back window - your dorm was only on the first floor, after all. So he did, and once inside he looked around, and went to her room, knocking that door now. "Y/N??" he asked more urgently this time, he was definitely worried now, he knew you well enough to understand what had probably happened to you. He was your best friend, and even if you didn't know it, his love was not just platonic. 

Shoto knocked again. He knocked hard, calling out to her, calling out to no avail. Something was very clearly wrong, and he felt an eerie sense of familiarity... He had to confirm his thoughts himself. 


3rd Person:

She had tears down her face, but no sound escaping her parted lips at all - Shoto froze, his breath catching in his throat at this familiar scene. His eyes darted towards the knife, then back at Y/N... He knew what this was, and his heart was breaking inside to see her doing this to herself again. Shoto quickly rushed over to her, sitting on his knees beside her and taking her bloody arm into his care. He'd seen her go through this a painful number of times, countless really, and this just served as a reminder of the hell she went through... 

"Y/N... why...?" he asked, his voice gentle, worried and desperate, "Please, Y/N, you need to tell me... Why, why would you do this again, what happened..." he asked her gently, but he sounded so anxious, it almost sounded like a plea. He was increasingly worried now, and needed to know how to help her, if she was okay. "I'll do everything I can to help if you let me, I promise... please, Y/N.." he said, tears welling up in his eyes like a waterfall being barricaded by a dam of desperation. 

"I.. I'm sorry.. Sh-Shoto, I'm sorry.." she was now in a flood of silent tears, which only made his heart ache further.

Shoto was visibly stunned. "Forgive you? For what?... There's nothing to be forgiven, Y/N! I'm your friend, and I'm telling you that you deserve so much more than... than this..." he looked down, tears started to escape his eyes, "You deserve happiness, to feel loved, to feel safe... You deserve nothing short of goodness, no, greatness, Y/N, and I'm going to make sure you get it." He said, looking her in the eye. He felt like breaking down, knowing that he couldn't make this all go away with a flash of ice. "Please, Y/N, I'm.. I-I'm here for you... Always." he said, his tears all spilling over, like an ice-bath overflow. 

"Shoto, no... Shoto, please d-don't cry... I'm not worth you crying over..."

Shoto was trying his best to hold himself together, but the tears were non-stop flowing. "Of course I'm going to cry! I'm crying for you, Y/N!" he choked out the words, "Please just tell me.. Is there anything I can do, I swear I'll do anything in my power to help you. To be here for you, here with you, forever.. Please, just tell me what's wrong, I can't lose you like this!!"

That's it: that's all it took. Y/N had a million thoughts swirling through her mind, most of them painful and bad, and too horrible to say aloud, so she broke down crying.. The second she did, Todoroki had no hesitation as he pulled her into his loving arms, and let her sob, gently holding the back of her head, holding her tightly. "Just let it out, Y/N, let all these bad feelings out.. I'm right here. I'm here, Y/N.. you're safe." he comforted her, rubbing her back as he made sure not to let go of her.

"I'll stay until you're okay." 

Shoto stayed with Y/N long after her sobbing had begun to subside. He didn't rush her or try to push her to tell him anything too personal before she was ready, just holding her and making sure she felt safe and comfortable. He was there for her, and would be for as long as she needed him. 

"Please just... hold onto me..."

"I'll never let you go." He promised her, holding her tightly. "As long as you never let me go, either. I'll always look out for you, and I'll always make sure you're happy and comfortable. I promise." He said, looking into her eyes. "You won't ever have to be alone again. You have me. And I'll always be here. I promise." He sounded determined to do whatever it took to make her life better, and to make sure she never had to face a pain like this again. "You're not alone, Y/N." Shoto tried to comfort her with his words, he wanted to make sure that she knew he really, truly meant what he said. "And I won't stop until you're feeling better. You won't be hurting like this again. I promise. But for now, will you let me stay? Until you're feeling at least a little bit better?" He asked, still holding her close. He felt like he finally made a real difference.

She nodded her head, and wiped her tears away, sniffling slightly, as she looked up at him, seeing the pure love and care in his eyes. 

"Why.. Wh-Why do you care so much a-about me... I.. just... I don't get why.."

He smiled at her, a small and very gentle smile. "That's the most confusing thing about love, Y/N. It's never about a reason. You don't fall in love because you're supposed to, or because it's logical. You don't fall in love for a reason at all. It happens because of a feeling, the feeling of wanting the best for someone, wanting to make them happy. Wanting to keep them safe, and to take care of them. Love can happen to anyone, and it doesn't always need a reason. And... I love you, Y/N."

This hit her like a tonne of bricks. Did he, Shoto Todoroki, introvert extraordinaire, just... just... tell her he loved her?! 

Shoto could see her face freeze, and that look of surprise and realisation on her face was something he would never, ever forget. He hadn't been expecting to say it. He hadn't had time to think about it. But it was out now. He loved her. And there was no taking it back. So, the only thing he could do was wait for a response. "..I'm sorry." He said, not knowing what else to say when he realised the weight of what he had just told her. 

"N-No, don't be.. don't be sorry, Shoto, I.. I love you too..."

"Y/N.." He said, and he reached up to caress her cheek with his thumb, his other hand still holding her gently against his chest with a firm, but loving hold. "Are you sure? I don't want to pressure you into saying that, so please, just tell me the truth." He said, looking into her eyes. He wanted her to know how much he loved her, but he didn't want his feelings to influence her own in any way, and he needed his peace of mind. 

"I do, I really do... I.. I love you, so much... so much it hurts..."

Shoto sighed with relief, and smiled. "I love you more." He said, and despite how much of a cheesy line it was, he still meant every single word sincerely. He knew it was true. He loved her in a different way, now. It wasn't just a friendship anymore, it was much deeper than that, and he couldn't imagine his life without her. And if she felt the same way about him, then he couldn't be happier. 

"I'm here for you. Always. Just like I promised you, right?" He said gently, smiling. He moved his hand from her cheek to her chin, lifting her face to look at him. He wanted her to know, with absolute certainty, that he would do everything he could to make sure she got the best life possible, and to show her that his feelings were genuine and real. She meant the world to him, and nothing was going to change that...
