The sun shone in through the window of your room, casting everything in a warm glow, but you were anything but sunny inside.
Sure, today was the day that you would get your Pokemon partner from Professor Oak, and set off to travel the Kanto Region, and maybe even the world, but there was a problem. Namely, your friends and neighbors. Y'see, Pallet Town was way, way out there in the Kantonian countryside, so it was a pretty small town, and with small towns, came the fact that everyone knew each other. And no one knew each other better, than the Oak family, the Akai family, and your family, so you grew up alongside your two best friends, Red Akai and Blue Oak.
"Y/N? Are you up?" your mother called from downstairs. Right, worry about Red and Blue later, right now, you had to get ready. Putting on your trainer outfit, you went downstairs, where your mother was waiting. "Oh..don't you look so grown up already," she said, misty-eyed, "Now, before you get your Pokemon, have some breakfast. I made your favorite."You savored your mother's food, knowing it would be a long while before you ate this again. Of course, you didn't want to take too long, as the Professor would be waiting for you. "Thanks mom," you said, finished with their food. As you stood to leave, you hugged your mother, and she hugged you back. "Bye mom!" you called, slinging your bag over your shoulder, and heading out into the sunny Pallet Town.
"Good morning, Y/N!" "Good morning!" "Are you ready to get your first Pokemon?" "You bet!" You called out to every neighbor you passed, making your way to the Oak Laboratory when you saw him. Professor Oak's grandson, Blue Oak himself.
"Heh, 'sup, Y/N?" he said, looking up at you with a smug expression. He was leaning against the wall, like he owned the place, which in a way, he did, considering who is grandfather was and all...but still! Blue had this aura of arrogance about him, always acting like he was Arceus' gift to the world, and he made sure everyone knew it. "I can't believe that gramps is gonna give you lame-os a Pokemon, especially when we all know I'm the best one here, right, Y/N?"You wanted to slap him.
"Blue, don't be so rude." Professor Oak walked over to his grandson, tailed by the other boy, Red Akai, your other friend, and fellow Pokemon Trainer. Red was, in many ways, the opposite of Blue. While Blue always carried himself like he was the best, Red was to himself, usually with hunched shoulders like he was trying to make himself small and invisible. He was also so much quieter, speaking only when he wanted to, and well, he wanted to talk about Pokemon a lot. "Well, since we're all here," Professor Oak clapped his hands, "let's get started, shall we?"
The three of you followed the Professor, Blue pushing off the wall, you and Red simply tailing him, into the Oak Laboratory. "As you three know, I have studied Pokemon for decades, and as such, have learned a great many things, which I have learned on my journey, and hope you three will do the same," he said, before presenting you a table with three Pokeballs. "Inside these Pokeballs, are three Pokemon I have saved for you," he said, and started to point to each in turn. "Bulbasaur, the Bulb Pokemon, Charmander, the Lizard Pokemon and Squirtle, the Tiny Turtle Pokemon. Whichever one you choose will be your lifelong partner, and will grow alongside you."You studied the Pokeballs, as Professor Oak gave Red the go-ahead to pick. "I ch-choose..."
AN: AAAaaaaaand you just got cliffhangered. Hehe suckers. Ok, but in all seriousness, I decided to end chapter 1 here, to mull over the choice a little bit, because as we all know, the Pokemon you pick effects the choice your rival makes, and since Red always picks first, that will determine Blue's Pokemon, and therefore leaving the remaining 'mon for Y/N. Since Red doesn't have a canonical choice (I mean he does but he also has the evos for the other two, plus Pikachu, it makes it a bit difficult), his choice will affect the story, and how the upcoming battles go. Anyway, trying not to bore y'all, so good morning, good afternoon and good night
no i didn't steal that from failboat shut up
