——

I walked onto the bus with Ashlyn. I wore one of her old shirts and a pair of my pants I had left a few weeks earlier. "Hey, Ash! Hey F/n!" the blond boy greeted us when we sat down. I nodded to him in response, too early for conversation but as usual, he didn't seem to get it.

I leaned my head back but someone tapped me on my shoulder. I opened my eyes, Ben looming over me. Handing me his red notebook, I noticed the writing. 'Are you alright?' he asked me. I felt my cheeks heat up as I managed an awkward smile. "Mhm! Just fine."

He sat back down as I furiously rubbed my face. 'Ugh! I'm so awkward, what type of interaction was that???' I thought as I leaned back again. Closing my eyes and ignoring my face, I relaxed. Not noticing that Aiden was bothering Ashlyn again and the loud, noisy kids on the bus.

I started dreaming. I dreamt of a beautiful beach and the sea. The waves crashing against the soft white-yellow sand create a beautiful melody. The sun hid away in its curtains of blue and black, the barely glowing moon taking its place as stars twinkled in the sky.

The star itself started to glow and shine, disappearing and reappearing again. I, myself, walked along the shores of the beach. The waves of ocean lapped against my bare feet as I held my shoes in one and someone else's hand in the other.

Someone else's hand?

I felt myself blushing and smiling at them, despite them not saying anything. I knew it was Ben. though he didn't talk much, he made up for it with his kindness and comfort. I talked and sometimes, I didn't. We would bask in each other's warmth and presence and it was okay.

I shook myself awake as the bus turned into the school. Ashlyn was on her phone, doing something that I would not pry myself into. The other teenagers were still loud and rowdy and the bus driver has just parked the bus. I sighed, more exhausted than when I had woken up.

Screw my dreams. They were dreams anyways.

A few minutes later, the bus driver allowed us to get off the bus, and the kids piled out from the other buses as well. As usual, Aiden and Ben stuck with us as we walked to our classrooms. We greeted Mr. Thomas who was busy writing something on the board.

"Today, we will do a paired project!" Mr. Thomas said when he started to explain our lesson. I met Ashlyn's eyes across the room and she rolled her eyes, gesturing to Aiden with her eyes as well. I glanced at him but he didn't notice as he was too busy staring at Ashlyn with his signature grin.

I laughed silently and looked at her again then back at the teacher. He explained more about our project, it was simple and it was an art project. Not that I minded, I wasn't the best at art but pretty decent.

"Blah, blah, blah, you can pick partners, blah." I mostly droned out Mr. Thomas's voice but did try to hear the important parts. He let us get up and pick out partners, but as I was going to Ashlyn, Aiden arrived at her first.
