WE ALL GO A LITTLE MAD SOMETIMES
" what's the matter sidney? you look like you've seen a ghost. "

No word in the English dictionary could perfectly capture exactly what Finn was feeling when Reign Wolfhard was born. It was an afterthought for him, something he looked back on when he was upset, which happened to be a lot. It wasn't until his time reflecting where he realized for himself the details of the sheer happiness that ran through his veins that day.
He couldn't stop crying, he remembered that. With his crooked grin and awkward dimples, a smile kept tugging at his face, the tears leaking down making it all the more bittersweet.
Because his son was no longer a figment of his imagination, or the future, he was raw and real, and there. And it was equally terrifying and beautiful. But nonetheless, a moment Finn would treasure forever. Probably his favorite memory at that.
It was really difficult beforehand. His stress was building up inside him like a volcano about to erupt. He was scared shitless, not knowing when he was about to pop. As if he was dangling off the edge of the cliff and let go, his eyes clenched shut and body tensing up, preparing for the flightless feeling to prevail. Reign never let his father fall. His birth distracted him from that awful pain.
And even now, with all the bullshit judgment from peers and older people, the mean looks, the comments, the drama, the drugs–the breakup even, Finn would do it all over again if it meant getting to see his son at the end of that dark tunnel. He was worth all the pain in the world. He was special.
He was his. Theirs, really. With Finn's dark curly hair, big brown eyes, silly smile and angular nose. He carried a few of his mother's physical traits, such as the color of her complexion and the gleam in her expression when she laughed, something that caused anybody's heart to melt for.
But more noticeably he was a carbon copy of her when it came to personality. Finn would sometimes bang his head on a wall because of it. They were both extremely talkative when they wanted to be, and with that came the struggle of shutting up. When exhausted they shut off the rest of the world, their social battery worn out. He had her sass and her attitude which was a pain in the ass for Finn... but he was also caring like her, kind and respectful to anyone, and intelligent in all the right ways. Finn was certainly happy about that. Even if Finn was a fuck up he could always rely on Y/n to make sure their son didn't admit into the same fate.
He was also fortunate for the invitation he received on that fresh Monday morning. Reign was starting kindergarten. Y/n explained that she felt bad about starting him so late into the school year but it was better late than never. Originally, the plan for her was to deal with the school schedule by herself but she called Finn up anyway. He couldn't miss his son's first day of school, and she wouldn't rip that experience away from either of them no matter how difficult it was seeing Finn.
Finn was still pretty bitter over their last encounter, only a couple of days before. The second he received the call from Y/n his heart leaped out of his chest, eyes wide and jaw dropped– and all she spoke about was Reign. Nothing about them. About where they were. And where they stood in all of this.
He supposed he should let that go now. Just like she said, the only thing conjoining them should be Reign. Although it hurt, she was correct. It still stung pretty harshly to have her besides himself for their child and their child only.
