Peter Charles had spent a long time trying to get over his nerves. Of course, Kristin offered to walk towards home with him. What used to be something they both agreed shouldn't happen between them was now... changed. So, Peter still felt a bit nervous after it all ended.
The night was dark, they had just gotten out of the midnight showing of Ghostbusters (2016). Shadows grew long and felt endless in alleyways and corners. Peter was used to a dark world while looking through his sunglasses but the world was not seen artificially now. It's darkness genuine. But this was their beloved town, they had lived here for years. Though it was important to be vigilant, it was also important to not try to overshadow your partner while walking. For they are just as strong as you.
"So, do you think the kids are doing okay at home?" Peter asked, not afraid to express this worry. Though they had been confident in their children when making this decision there was this nagging in the back of his mind.
"Charles, I'm sure they're fine. I'll get one of them to text you when I get home and I'm sure they'll say how much they steered clear of trouble. You'll have an excellent conversation of Ghostbusters (2016) and feel confident in them again." Kristin reassured, looking towards the stars.
"You worry too much. Though we need to keep fighting for equal rights, we don't always need to feel in danger. Even if the town could get a bit crazy at times." She continued, confidence laced through each word.
The light pollution on this side of town made the sky seem flat at times. Yet as they started down the roads that lead towards their homes the sky opened up. Deep and vast, it called to them from above. Shining, begging for attention. Sometimes this town seemed to summon more than any god most religions talked about. Sometimes it felt like the town seduced them, like a carp to an angler fish. Or at least a small part did. Yet it made every other beautiful part of the town stick out in a deep contrast. Peter couldn't help wanting to see it all. The stars and galaxies above them were not an exception.
Which hid the dark shadow of the person watching them from afar.
Peter couldn't help but admire it. Seeing the stars through trees that hung softly, only recently kissed by spring. Bringing a special life to South Park. Kristin was right, he worried too much. They were strong independent people. This fact didn't stop the father from keeping them locked in his head. With everything going on lately, there was no other choice.
As they got to the road that led down to Peter's home, they slowed down, Kristin letting out a sigh through their silence. It was almost eerie considering what a spring night should sound like. Bright and alive, like a flower being fed direct sunlight for the first time in weeks. But instead there was a low hum of bugs that came through if you listened hard enough and occasional snaps and caws from animals around them.
"I'll head off my way, I'll tell the kids to talk to you as soon as I get home. Should get you enough time to get comfortable but not late." Kristin offered with a smile, the light coming down, shining on her blonde hair that had turned a bit more dirty blonde over the years. Peter himself got his occasional gray hairs. They could never stop changing.
Peter gave a toothy grin back, he couldn't help it around her. "Thank you, I appreciate that very much."
