six. after party
SLIGHTLY MATURE ACTIONS
Only the sound of crickets chirping could be heard. The teenagers stood quiet out of fear. Even Tatum was startled, and he was a shape-shifting werewolf.
"It's there," Austin notified as he slowly moved toward the glass patio doors. "It's right there."
"Right where?"
"The pool," Austin whispered. Now everyone was following them.
"There's nothing in the pool," Harlan declared.
"It's not in the pool anymore," Austin clarified. "It's right outside it."
"Where?" Blake asked.
"The wall," Austin quickly backed up a few inches and pointed outside. "Look at the stone wall around the hot tub."
Tatum's eyes drifted from the panicking boy to the stone wall. He saw it. Its dark fur helped it blend in but its yellow eyes made it stand out. "I don't see shit."
"That's because you don't have good eyesight," Tatum declared openly as he stared at the shadowy figure. Tatum couldn't take his eyes off it. It was hard not looking at it. But the alarming thing was that it stared back at him. He felt someone grab him and pull him back, snapping him out of his daze.
"Get back, Tate," Harlan mumbled as he pulled the boy behind him. The five werewolves in the room made eye contact. Whispers of fearsome words were expressed all throughout the space.
"I told you it's out there," Austin asserted. "There's something out there."
"No, no, no," Phoebe let out. "It's just a possum, okay? Stop trying to scare the shit out of everyone."
"It wasn't a possum," Austin argued.
"It had dark fur and its eyes were reflecting the light," claimed Phoebe.
"Yeah, I think I know what a goddamn possum looks like, Phoebe," Austin said, pacing back and forth and running his fingers through his hair.
"What do we do?" Tatum inquired of Harlan, who shrugged his shoulders in response.
"Maybe we should all get away from the doors," Luna suggested. Tatum took countless steps away from the glass doors and was now standing beside Blake.
"Blake, turn the light off," Luna ordered. The Navarro girl pushed the switch, shutting off the lights. Tatum felt a spooky atmosphere overcome them, as did the silence.
