"I can handle myself, Mom." The short-haired girl expressed as she gently grabs her Mom's hand.
"No," Her mother shakes her head, "We need to be more careful, Becky." She pleaded.
Rebecca Patricia Armstrong is the only child of the owner of a well-known Law Firm in Bangkok, Thailand— The Patrich Legal International Law Office. However, despite the fact that her last name is well-known in the industry of law, not many have seen her personally.
"But, Mom," Becky squeezed her mother's hand, "No one knows me. Nobody knows that I'm your dau—"
"It's different now, Becky." Mrs. Armstrong objected and gave her daughter a stern look.
Working as a lawyer is very challenging. They'll face the risk of someone wanting to hurt them. They might receive threats outside the workplace, or in worst case scenario, someone might even threatens their family members.
In that case, the Armstrong couple decided that sending their youngest daughter abroad to study in a prestigious university would be the best decision. Their only princess would be hidden in the public's eyes.
But now, it's already different.
"You're going to stay here in Thailand to finish your internship. So I need someone to keep an eye on you 24/7 and protect you in case something happens." Mrs. Armstrong explained.
"I said, I don't need anybody. I can take care of myself." Becky rolled her eyes and crossed her arms in disbelief as her mother walked towards the desk to open the envelopes.
When Becky went abroad, she promised to be a good girl as her parents wants her to be. Well, she did her best to be good girl.
Physical distance from her parents allowed her the independence and freedom that most Thai children lack of.
"It's better to be safe than sorry." Her mother voiced out while reading the paper of the applicants.
"But Mom—"
"Rebecca Patricia, just listen to me, okay?!"
That's it, that's the signal. Her mother mentioned her "full name" in a high-pitch tone causes her to shut up. Therefore, she don't have a choice but to follow.
"Fine." Becky murmured in annoyance.
BECKY POV
"I told you! You should finish your internship here in Seoul with us." My South Korean friend uttered over the phone. Despite the noise around her, her voice can still be heard.
I ran my fingers through my hair as I explained, "It's been a long time since I stayed in Thailand. I want to have an experience of being an internship student in my hometown before I graduate from college."
"You have a valid point. I understand," Lia quickly answered, "For the meantime, just follow your parents even if it's against your will." She advised.
I exhaled deeply while nodding my head, "Yeah, you're right. I'm just gonna.. endure it." I then furrowed my brows when I heard loud music and screams over the phone.
"Wait, where are you now?" I got curious, "Are you in a ba—"
"Yes! We're here in—" Lia got cut off and I heard another voice.
"Biiiiiiiiiiiitch, go back here! We miss youuuuu!" I moved my phone a little bit farther from my ear as Somi yelled over the phone.
I couldn't help but giggle when I heard their laugh. I was about to say something but another voice yelled over the phone.
"Yah, we are here at our fave place! You better go back here, biiiiiiiiitch~!" My smile got wider when I confirmed that it's Giselle's voice.
"I miss you too bitches!" I responded as I giggle, "Don't worry, I'll visit Seoul again!"
I heard Lia grabbed her phone from Giselle, "Let's meet again, okay? But for now, have fun in Thailand. And we'll have fun here at our favorite bar and look for some pretty ladies."
I let out a laugh when I heard her last sentence, "Fine fine. Have fun, biiiitches!"
I hung up the call and sat down on my bed as I stared at my pink hello kitty slippers.
Choi Lia, Jeon Somi, Aeri Uchinaga also known as Giselle— are my South Korean friends that I met when I had my two-week internship in Seoul. We clicked and became great friends. I survived living in the city because of them. Yet, there was another reason that made my time in Seoul more fun.
I opened my phone again and scroll through the gallery. I then stopped when I saw my selfie with a pretty girl.
We were inside the bar when we shot the selfie, which is why the picture is so dark and blurry.
But her gummy smile is still visible, though.
