I tapped my pen against my large wooden desk and let out another exaggerated sigh
"Do you have any questions Lexi?" my head snapped up and I looked at Mrs. Parks.
"What?" I asked.
"Were you paying attention?" she asked. I shook my head.
"I'm really sorry, it's that the book says that this should be done with a partner." I said. Mrs. Parks sighed and looked at me.
"You have been on about this for a couple months now. Why don't you just ask your parents?" she asked. I sat in my cushioned seat for a second and tilted my head.
"I've tried, but nothing I say convinces my mother, she won't budge. Why is it so difficult for me to go to a school rather than being homeschooled?"
"Maybe there is more to it than you know? Instead of convincing her, have you tried talking about a compromise that works for the both of you?"
I sat in thought as I began tapping my pen on the desk again.
"I guess I never thought about that. I've never really had to ask for a compromise when it came to something I wanted." I let out another sigh and quickly stood up. "Thank you for the advice Mrs. Parks, I think I'm going to try that now." I stepped out of the room and made my way to my mother's office. It took a couple of turns to make my way there in the mansion I call home.
I walked into my mother's office without knocking and found her on the phone. She held a finger up to me while she kept speaking. I slumped down in a chair across from her and waited. After some time, she got off the phone and looked up at me.
"What brings you over to the east wing?" she asked.
"Oh me? I just came over here to see my beautiful and radiant looking mother." I said, and flashed her a smile. She flashed me a smile back, but then got serious.
"What do you need?" she asked. Her voice was full of authority from years as a business woman, and as my father's wife. She radiated power and confidence. I sighed and gave in.
"I want to go to school." I said. She looked up at me from some paperwork she was filling out.
"You go to school with Mrs. Parks," she said, and looked back down.
"I mean real school, with real students and classrooms." I replied.
"You know very well I don't like you going out, neither does your father."
"I do know very well. You've told me almost every day at this point, but what kind of parents tell the press nothing about their child? They don't even know you have a child."
"That's for business reasons,"
"Mom, can you please just stop working for a second and acknowledge me?" I begged. My mom froze for a second before she put down her pen and looked up at me. "Up until now I've done everything as best as I can. I take advanced classes, dance, play the violin and piano, and a ton of other things, and I do them well. You know I do, so isn't there anything you can do? I know you and dad are really high up, isn't there something you two can do?"
"Honey, you have to know one thing about a business. No matter how much you help people, or how much other people like you, there are going to be people you have to turn your back on in order to get to the top. Not everyone is your friend. Unfortunately, the people who want to get back at your dad are also very dangerous and powerful. They have very little heart, and will take down anything that will take down your father. This is for your safety more than anything."
"Okaaaay. That seems like a good reason, but I just want to go to a real school. I won't even say you guys are my parents." I said.
"I'll talk it over with your father to see if we can figure things out. I'll come talk to you if we do think of something." she said. I nodded calmly but my heart skipped a beat at the prospect of getting to go to a school outside of our property. This is the closest I had ever been to my mom agreeing with me.

That night, I sat in my room watching some TV as I got ready for bed, then suddenly there was a knock on my door. Soon it opened up and a couple people began to come in with my mother behind them all, smiling like she won the lottery... as if she would have to.
"Lexi, be ready. You have school tomorrow." she said and walked over to me. I looked at all the people around me.
"Who are these people, and why are they here?" I asked. My mother waved them off.
"They are just here to show you how to use the suit." she said. "Go ahead." she said to a woman.
"Suit?" I asked. I was pulled to my feet and they began putting some stuff on me, and after a bit they backed up and nodded. Whatever they put on me was heavy and it bulged everywhere. My mother looked at me and raised her eyebrows.
"Wow, if I didn't know better, I would say you aren't my daughter." She said. My eyes widened and I ran over to my full length mirror. I didn't find myself.
In the mirror, stood an overweight teenage girl... curves going outward instead of inward, and she moved all clumsy. There was also a dirty blonde wig on my head covering my dark brown hair.
"Mom.... isn't this going overboard?" I said, my voice shaking because of how weirded out I was.
"I thought that you would do this small thing, in return, you get to go to school." She said. I shook my head.
"How and why would I go like this?" I said, still looking in the mirror.
"Lexi, I don't want to exaggerate but you are quite literally gorgeous. I understand that you usually interact with people that work here, and the only other people you see are actors on Tv, but it isn't common for people your age to look like you do." My mother said. "Even if you went to school without it, it wouldn't take long for people to take interest.
I stood with my mouth open.
"Well, either go to school like this, or not at all. Here you go. This is your name and information. You can not tell anyone who you are unless your father or I say so. A car will be waiting in the morning." With that, she left my room with everyone else and shut the door.
I looked in the mirror again. This wasn't fair. I grumbled until I went to bed, but the damn thing was still in.
"NO ONE TOLD ME HOW TO TAKE THIS STUPID THING OFF!!!!! OR EVEN HOW TO PUT IT ON NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT!!!!" I shouted.
