Chapter 4: Sights and Bites

The next day, I was invited to Ophelia's house, and I was going to help her cook some food for a family gathering.

The menu was apple, peach and cherry pies, sugar and chocolate chip cookies, lasagna, devilled eggs, mashed potatoes, spaghetti, chicken wings, fries and burgers.

I started off with the easiest task: devilled eggs. I took out the eggs and boiled them. Ophi boiled the potatoes and then mashed them. She adds sour cream, butter and garlic in it and mixes it. When she's not looking, I take a sneaky spoonful of the potatoes and they were so creamy and delicious!

I took out the eggs from the pan and peeled them. I then put all the egg yolks in a marble bowl and added salt, pepper and sour cream on them and mixed them. I then put them back in the egg whites and added red pepper flakes on top of them.

After the eggs and mashed potatoes were done, we got started on the lasagna and the spaghetti. Ophi made the lasagne and started on the meat sauce. After her meat sauce was done, she puts some of it on the pan and then the pasta strips, and then the sauce and so on. After that was over, she shreds cheese on it and I fall for her even more.

I made some meat sauce too, and added ground beef, blended tomatoes and some pieces of potatoes. I let it simmer on low heat for about 15 minutes. While it was cooking, I boiled the spaghetti, letting it become soft and chewy. When they both finish cooking, I put them in separate bowls.

While I was marinating the chicken wings and burger patties, I felt someone's presence behind me, and they put their arms around my waist. I turned around, I saw Ophi behind me, and she kissed my cheek.

While the meats were marinating, Ophi and I helped set up the tables outside, with red and white tablecloths. Afterwards, we helped organize games like bean bag tosses, guess the food, twister, food eating races and more.

Once the meats were done, we cooked them and set them up on the tables. We set the devilled eggs, mashed potatoes, spaghetti, lasagna, cookies, pies and chicken wings.

The food glistened in the sunlight and pretty soon, all the guests arrived. Ophi introduced me as her best friend from work, not telling them about what position I am.

All in all, it was one of the best days I'd had in a while.
