What does Royalty mean to you?

Probably a life of luxurious living. Constant wealth by hardly lifting a finger. Simply wave a hand in the air or ring a bell and someone will rush to serve you. Calluses on a royal's hand are unheard of what with chores being fulfilled by others. All you'd have to do is ask and you would receive.

And for the most part, you'd be correct. But it comes with its disadvantages.

For a young boy named Nomi Conico, he had to experience these disadvantages on a daily basis. A reality he had to accept over the years.

Isolation.

Never allowed to leave the castle, the closest thing to freedom is the garden out back. But even with such a massive garden they still somehow make it impossible to enjoy. Even with the sheer size of the castle they still seem to make it feel suffocating.

Now you must be asking; doesn't a young prince have multiple guards, maids, and helpers around the castle to keep him company? Why couldn't he pass the time by speaking with them?

That's the thing. He's not supposed to.

Even with his many attempts to make connections, his comments and questions fell on deaf ears. Any question he had for them was met with utter silence and simple yes or no answers.

Not even the many guards that followed his every move would even attempt to talk to him. Always watching from a distance to ensure Nomi's safety. Their mouths shut, never say a single word other than bark orders at him.

These guards constantly blocked the exits, preventing the prince from exploring, and restricting every choice Nomi ever made.

Nomi felt like a prisoner in his own home.

A prison disguised as paradise and his home. With Nomi being the only prisoner behind its marble walls.

Nothing is his choice. Even the choices he makes have him wondering if he truly wanted the option. Or maybe he was manipulated to want it. He is never fully sure.

He almost couldn't tell if he had a real personality or if it was molded by others.

It was suffocating. He would do anything to be freed. Even if it were for a moment he would be content.

But he knew it was just a wish. Something he could never truly do. After all, he had an image to uphold. He couldn't degrade his family name for his wants, or at least that's what he tells himself.

But one day, a tragedy pushed him off the edge.

At the age of ten, his parents had passed. Their death was completely out of the blue. No one saw it coming. Not a single person expected such a catastrophe to shake the kingdom to its core. Fear overwhelming the people.

Which only left Nomi to be the only heir left to carry on the Nomicon name.

Which only made his isolation worse.
After all, his protection was on everyone's agenda in the whole castle. Each person serving under the Nomicon name had a new task to take on. And that was the safety of young Prince Nomi.

A young boy his age with so little human interaction would lead anyone to get frustrated. He has everything at his fingertips but he couldn't even utilize it in the slightest.

The only company he possessed was the guards that constantly watched his every move, watching over him to ensure his safety. It didn't help that they often stayed silent.

He'd try his best to form some kind of connection with them but they wouldn't crack. They were as silent as stone statues.

Not exactly the most thrilling conversations he ever had. But I suppose he can't really compare since their the only conversations he ever gets to have.
