The girl and the games

Chapter 2

'Hey' William texted. I was in the bath. I had responded to both Henry's and Williams requests.
'Hey' I sent back. This couldn't have been happening. A new guy and my old crush. Ugh.
'How was volleyball practise? I heard it was on this afternoon' He continued the conversation.
'Practise was good, my arms are a bit sore and shaky but that's normal. You didn't play any footy at lunch.' I responded.
'Yeah. The guys didn't wanna since it was our first day back.' He answered.
'Makes sense.' I put my phone down and finished up in the bath. I wrapped a towel around my body and my hair before checking my phone again while brushing my teeth.
'You seem to be the only girl not all over me after the Ashleigh incident.' He had send 15 minutes ago. I laughed a little at my reply time.
'Well cheating is horrible. Don't worry. I totally thought about being your fake girlfriend to get back at her.' I sent without realising.

"Shoot!" I tried to delete it but he had seen it. "Damn!" I groaned loudly. Mum knocked on the door.
"Is everything okay?" She asked.
"Everything is fine!" I called out before finishing brushing my teeth, ignoring Williams reply. I quickly got changed and walked into my room. I shut my door accidentally quite loud which set off the monster.

I knew my mistake once I had let go of the door. I dropped my phone and suddenly my mums face was inches from mine.
"How dare you slam doors in this house!" She yelled. I tried to move away but she grabbed my shoulders and held me up to the wall.
"Mum, I-i didn't mean it!" I yelled back. It wasn't something I did often.
"You are such a rude child! Ungrateful Undisciplined!" She started to spit more with her yelling. I turned my head away and closed my eyes. She pulled me back from the wall before pushing me back into it.
"If you slam this door again, you're losing it!" Mum yelled once more before walking out of my room. I slowly slid down the wall and hugged my knees to my chest. I couldn't stop the tears from rushing down my face.

I must have been there for a few hours and eventually fell asleep because when I woke up,  the sun was now rising. I grabbed my phone and groaned at how my neck hurt from the position. I saw I left Williams response. I opened our chat and climbed into my bed. Might as well lay in it until school.
'A fake girlfriend would definitely get girls to back off.' He had responded with. I sighed and looked at the time. It was 5:32 am.
'Hey,  sorry for the late reply/early reply. Had things come up last night. It would get girls to back off. Probably make Ashleigh jealous too.' I sent before putting my phone down and rolled over. I heard the notification ring. I quickly grabbed my phone and saw William had replied.
'Haha, it's okay. It sounds like it would work, I'm down if you are.' I was shocked at his reply.
'You are up early.' I sent.
'I workout every morning at my home gym before school.' He sent.
'Huh.' I said before I fell back asleep.

At school, my back was hurting from last night more than my body was hurting from volleyball. I was miserable. I could hardly hold my things for class.
"Good morning." A familiar voice said. I turned and it was Henry.
"Oh hey Henry!" I smiled at him and dropped my pencil case. "Shit-" I hissed when I went to pick it up and bumped one of my shoulders on my locker door.
"I'll grab it." Henry said before he held my pencil case for me. "How are you feeling after first day of practice?" He was smiling. He had a nice smile.
"I'm feeling good. Slept wrong last night, that's all." It totally wasn't my Mum putting my back out of place. I smiled and heard Amanda yelling from the distance.

I turned and saw a crowd of students in a circle. I dropped my things and rushed over. I was worried Lilly and Shae got into a fight or something. It was William and Max. I managed to squeeze through.
"Hey!" I called out. Max was on top of William, swinging most of the punches. "HEY!" I yelled louder. It got Williams attention.
"Mia!" Amanda called out. I wrapped my arms around Max and tried to pull him off. I got elbowed in the face, which made my eyes tear up.
"Mia!" William yelled. It distracted Max just enough for me using all of my strength to tackle Max off of William, I'm only about 5ft and 3 inches. I twisted his arm and a small sob came out. I kept my head down and a teacher rushed over.

"What the hell happened!?" It was Mrs Cooper, my English teacher. She was a lovely lady, auburn hair with blue eyes.
"William and Max got into a fight, Miss!" Amanda said as everyone else but her and Henry ran away. I couldn't say anything. My chest and throat felt too tight.
"Mia. Please get off of Max." Mrs Cooper said. I did what she asked and kept my head low going straight to Amanda. I pressed my head against her shoulder and she must have heard a sniffle. Before I could turn away she grabbed my face and pulled me into a hug.
"Mia?" I heard Henry say.
"Go get ice, Henry!" Amanda snapped and hid my face in her chest. Henry's footsteps disappeared into the distance and my knees gave out. I broke down in Amanda's arms.
"Mia!" I heard both Mrs cooper and William call out.
"She's okay!" Amanda said while rubbing my back. I stayed in her arms crying. I felt a jacket wrap around me. It didn't smell like Amanda, it smelt like grass. I lifted my head and saw William before quickly hiding my face again. I heard Mrs cooper talking to the boys in the distance before Henry came back with ice. Amanda gently pressed the ice to my lip.
"Gosh, second day back and you are already getting into fights over a boy." She joked. I couldn't laugh, it hurt too much.

Later on, in class, William sat next to me. Amanda was on the other side.
"Are you okay?" He asked. I looked at him and nodded.
"I've had worse. I play volleyball remember." I smiled and did a small laugh.
"I didn't know you'd get involved. I didn't mean for that to happen at all. I didn't even start the fight. Max did." William sighed. I gently rubbed his arm and smiled more genuinely.
"I'm fine, I promise." I went back to writing in my book. I could tell he felt bad so I rubbed his hand and smiled more at him. "Would do it again if I needed to. It's all good." I said before getting back to work. Amanda kicked my foot and I glared at her.

The rest of the day wasn't as hectic. I just sat with William or Henry and Amanda. Henry did spend more time with his volleyball team mates which was fine. At lunch I saw the boys playing footy and William waved a few times. The girls would giggle each time. At the end of school, I was getting ready to get into my car and I heard footsteps approaching rather quickly. I turned around and it was Henry.
"How is your lip?" He asked. I smiled and nodded.
"My lip is fine. It's a little sore but it'll be okay." I said leaning on my car.
"How was your second day?" I tilted my head.
"It was good. I was gonna ask if I was allowed to text you? Like on Instagram?" He spoke. I slowly nodded.
"Yeah, sure. Go for it." I smiled before opening my car door. "Text me. I'll see you tomorrow." I said before getting in my car and watched him walk away.

I sat in my car for a bit before sighing and drove home. How have I caught the interest of two guys in two days? I rolled my eyes and parked my car before staring out of my window. I walked inside, Mum and Hayden were in the kitchen doing his homework. I put my bag down and took off my shoes before laying in bed. I heard my phone ding. Twice. It was Henry and William.
'I still feel terrible about this morning' - William.
'How are you feeling since this morning?' - Henry. I stared at the messages for a bit.
'I'm all good William. :)'
'Yeah, I'm fine, thanks Henry.' I put my phone down and laid on my back staring at my ceiling. I pulled two guys without trying.

A few hours later, Amanda called me squealing and giggling.
"Yes?" I asked.
"I just asked Henry on a date! I hope that's okay! He said yes!" She squealed in my ear. Maybe I didn't pull two guys.
"That's great, Am." I smiled and sighed in relief.
"And you and William are joining us."
"What!?"
