Chapter 1:

The First Death.

Upon first glance, Jamie was a normal boy. He got alright grades, he had a good friend group and he got a good amount of bullying. Apart from being gay, he was regular. He blended in (unlike most of his friends).

Life was normal, it was actually going well for once, his grades had started to go up and it seemed like the bullies were getting bored of him! That was until the school secretary was found dead at her desk after school.

3:30 PM It was a Tuesday, students were filing out of the building to go home or get drunk with their friends at some random field, the "Riverside High '' sign had some new graffiti on it. Mrs Longwood had been covering for an English class since their regular teacher, Mr Goldsworth, had gotten into a car accident and was in hospital. She had sent two trouble makers, Jake and John, to the principal and they probably got detention but aside from that the class had been alright (if not a little unresponsive)

Before she went back to do her own work at her office she decided to clean the classroom up a bit. She felt bad for Mr Goldsworth and decided to help him out (probably the first nice thing she had done in her life)

5:38 PM. She had stayed a lot longer than she intended to. She had important tests to grade but decided it could wait (who cared if it inconvenienced the students?)

5:50 PM. She had finished all she had planned and packed up, going to leave the room. Then, she heard the window. Quickly, she turned around. Then everything went black.

8:00 AM. Mrs Longwood was found by a member of faculty. The arms, legs, head and torso were all detached, The desks were all against the wall and chairs were scattered around the room. In the middle of the room was a chair that contained her torso propped up on it. Two more chairs were to the left and right, slightly forwards, of the first chair and contained one leg each. Mirroring those two (behind the torso chair) were two chairs containing the arms. Finally, the head was set up on the teachers desk. Blood dripped down her head, it was dried. There was a cut on her forehead and her left eye was missing. In her mouth was a Tarot Card. The Four of Wands, reversed. The card on a basic level represents disharmony and unhappiness.

The police were called instantly after she was found, They barricaded off the room with police tape and the school sent the kids home.

Jamie was with his friends: Thea, Nala and Matt. They stood outside the school building.

"What do you think happened?" Nala asked, staring at the grimy school building in confusion. None of them had been told about what had happened.

"Maybe someone was killed! I've heard rumours of that Ace serial killer coming back!" Matt proclaimed. Ace was a murderer who was very active until recently. They killed almost randomly but all of their victims had done something wrong (from abuse to cheating). They always left an ace of hearts card at the scene of the crime with the victim's first name on the back. A month ago they retired, leaving one last victim, their grey hoodie covered in bloodstains, and a box of ace cards with people who were going to be his victims. After that, they were never heard from again.

"Pft! Nonsense. Ace wouldn't return for someone so petty. Especially after such a public retirement." Jamie responded confidently

"Eh, I don't really care! You guys wanna go to McDonalds?" Nala asked, unphased by the talk of serial killers.

"Hell yeah!" Matt proclaimed.

"Why not?" Jamie added. Thea simply nodded.

The group drove to McDonalds, they used Matt's car while Thea drove. Matt's parents weren't rich exactly but they were above middle class so he had a BMW while no one else but Thea owned a car (Thea owned a crappy mini). However, Thea was the more responsible driver and actually HAD a licence unlike Matt.

The drive wasn't long, the McDonald's was only a couple of minutes with little to no traffic. The ride was filled with shitty pop music, loud debates on which Greek God would be the best murderer (Thea was literally pagan, wasn't that like blasphemy?).

Jamie seemed zoned out. He stared absent-mindedly outside at the people and occasional cars. He apparently got so out of it that he didn't notice when they stopped.

"We're here." Thea said tonelessly, parking and exiting the car.
