Astyanax was beat. He had just finished an hour long training session with his fencing instructor and was walking back to his the dorms the collage he attended supplied.
For him fencing was just a hobby and though he had to admit it have him something to brag about he didn't really see it coming in handy in a real life situation but still he persevered.
His aunt Doris was the teacher there so he got free lessons as long as he helped out a bit. And he didn't mind spend time with his aunt.
On his way back to the dorms he passed the park and was shocked to see a path he'd never seen before leading deep within the wood line. He often came to this park to relax and occasionally hike. Over the four years he had been here he swore up and down that he had tracked every trail to its end.
But here it was. A trail he had never seen before. It seemed almost to mock him. Astyanax checked his phone and decided he had enough time for a quick hike. If the trail was to long he would come back to investigate on Saturday.
And so he began the hike the trail was pleasant and calming with easy walking and few hills. Astyanax was cursing himself for not knowing such a path ever existed. It was just the right amount of calm to clear stress but just challenging enough to be considered an exercise.
Eventually he came to the end of the trail. It stopped in a small clearing surrounded by large flat stones that almost made a building shape without a roof. Right in the middle there was a large stone pillar that looked like something out of Greek mythology.
Taken aback by the strange position the stones were in astyanax began to examine them. The upright rocks where covered in graffiti but there were a few sentences written in Latin on the sides of them.
"To take a hero?" astyanax read aloud wondering what that could possibly mean.
Astyanax then walked to the middle collum and touched it. To his surprise it started to glow. The glowing grew so bright that astyanax had to shield his eyes. When he opened them he was greatly shocked.
His new surroundings where far different from where he had been before the stone circle was still there but the forest around him was far darker. He noticed that he was no longer wearing the same cloths he had been originally. While he did have on his underclothing he was mostly covered in a heavy purple armor.
Astyanax examined his new armor and noticed there was no helmet. Looking around he spotted the oddly spiked purple helmet. Bending down to pick it up revealed a creature astyanax had never seen before.
At first he believed it to be an insect because of its butterfly like wings. But upon further inspection he discovered it had a human body. She was wearing a blue shirt with a long dress skirt. She almost looked the part of royalty.
At first astyanax thought she was dead but after awhile he noticed shallow breathing coming from the little body. Soon after she started to awaken.
"Hello there. Where am I?" astyanax asked wondering if the small creature could even speak English. To his surprise as well as great relief she apparently could.
"Are you a hero" she asked excitedly completely ignoring his question.
"Not really" astyanax said " I saved a kitten from a tree once does that count?" He asked.
The small creature suddenly became upset. "I have failed the king" she wailed sounding almost heart broken.
"Hey now I may not be a hero but I'm sure there is something I can do to help" astyanax said trying to cheer her up. He had a hunch she was his ticket back home so he decided to try and keep her happy.
"I'm afraid not" the small creature said remembering her task. "We need a real hero. Someone to help fight a war." She stated.
"Well I can certainly try" astyanax said.
