Summer in Little Whinging was always a daunting task for Harry, merely just an interference between him and his home, Hogwarts. Although recently, the school has turned against him, but never the castle, no, the castle stayed loyal to Harry. Often it felt like the castle's magic caressed him, just like his mother would have if she was given the chance. Hermione never agreed with him. She dismissed him saying that although Hogwart's was the most magical place in the world that magic was not sentient.
Harry never again voiced his opinion on the matter, not after she just looked at him like he was utterly stupid. He felt betrayed that she thought so little of him that she did not even listen to him. Harry was not known to be a scholar and study but that did not mean that he hated reading and learning more about the wizarding world. Reading used to be one of Harry's favorite past times before Hogwarts, often he would sneak over to the library to read. One of the librarians felt pity for him and often granted him sanctuary in her office to hide from his bullies.
The blazing heat was starting to be too much for him. The Dursley's had kicked him out during the heatwave, claiming that he would run the electricity bill up if he stayed inside. So Harry quietly walked outside and sat near the shade, not even bothering to argue with Vernon, he knew better than that. That's how Harry ended up in his current position, sweating heavily and his vision blurring while he sat under a shady tree. After six hours of sitting outside he decided in a last ditch effort he would go to the only other place he ever felt safe at besides Hogwarts, the library.
Walking to the library seemed to take more out of Harry than he thought. As soon as he walked through the doors of the building he collapsed, causing the loud shatter of a nearby standing lamp.
The librarian rushed over after hearing a loud noise. When noticing a boy laying on the floor she quickly tried to pick him up, after failing at that she decided to lean him up against the now closed door. She then ran over to her office and pulled a few water bottles out of the small fridge she had under her desk.
Harry was just waking up when she made it back over the boy. She quickly handed the boy a water and he confusedly grabbed it.
"What are you waiting for? Drink it," the librarian ordered.
The boy looked up at her slowly, and then tried to open the water bottle, only for his hands to be too weak. The librarian noticed that he had trouble opening the bottle so she did it for him. After that he was able to drink some of it, relieving the pain in his throat due to his dehydration.
"Have you been outside all day boy? Where are your parents?" she demanded, worried for the boy who just showed up at the library and collapsed.
"Yes ma'am..I don't have any," Harry said slowly, drinking more water to try and feel better.
"You don't have any? Don't you dare lie to me, I won't call your parents if that is what you are worried about? I am sure they wouldn't like to hear that you probably snuck out of the house, huh?" the librarian questioned, having all the authority of an old lady who wants to know something.
"No, it is nothing like that ma'am. I am an orphan, my parents are dead," he admitted, sitting up more, slowing feeling stronger.
Her eyes were saddened, "What's your name, boy? Why are you outside during a heat wave. Not even a dog should be outside in this weather?"
"Harry Potter, ma'am. My guardians asked me to."
The librarian stared at him in shock. "You're Harry Potter, why in the world would your guardians make you do that?"
Harry felt unsettled that the woman knew his name, the only reason she would know his name would be if she was familiar with the wizarding world...unless?
"How do you know my name?" he asked, eyes narrowing as he stood up, trying his hardest not to fall over.
"I am sure you can figure out why, Potter," she smiled, showing a hint of her wand, that was hidden in a holster, warded against drawing attention to muggles.
Harry looked around, checking his surroundings to see if anyone was around. "You are a witch, aren't you?"
She nodded, "My name is Emma Vanity. It is very intriguing that I found you in the muggle world, everyone was told that you lived with distant Potter relatives in a magical community out of England."
Harry could not hold back his scoff, feeling very bitter towards his relatives right now he decided to tell her the truth. Telling a random lady who he lived with is usually a bad idea, but Harry couldn't care less at that moment, all he was feeling was anger and bitterness towards the Dursleys who left him outside in a heat wave to suffer.
"I wish I did, I live with my mother's muggle relatives, they hate me and they hate magic. How I would love to have lived with relatives who might have cared for me," Harry spat out, all his emotions were bubbling to the surface, threatening to spill out.
"How dare he lie about something so serious as a child's wellbeing," she muttered, glaring at the thought that he had lied to the whole wizarding world, there would have been many families that would have volunteered light or dark. She would have, and she almost followed the Dark Lord but quickly vanished as she realized that the man was insane and that his true goals were not to bring back magical traditions but to eradicate muggleborns and the light. That's how she ended up here, working at a muggle library. She sometimes wished she could have stayed in the wizarding world but thought it was too much of a risk, so in the sanctuary of her own home, that was warded the best she could but was not up to professional standards, did simple spells that made her feel connected to the wizarding world. She used to have the Daily Prophet but cancelled the subscription a while ago.
"Who, who lied?" he questioned, intrigued.
"Dumbledore, shortly after your parents were killed and the Dark Lord was said to be killed, he gave a statement to the public claiming that you were with your Father's relatives and would be tutored to learn the magical ways.
"He said what?! I begged him to let me stay at Hogwarts, that I did not feel safe. He told me that I was being dramatic and that all families love each other. He knew how my home was but he still denied my request!" Harry yelled, close to tears.
He was overwhelmed and couldn't get control of his magic that started swirling around him. Emma quickly realized what was happening and quickly apparated them both to her house. She would apologize to the boy soon but she could not have him completely wreck the library that she worked so hard for.
As soon as she apparated them both to her house Harry's magic exploded, making her fly into the wall and all the windows in her house to shatter. Her whole body was in pain as she crashed into the wall, right into her bookshelf. She had to get up and make sure that Harry would not hurt himself. She ignored the pain she was in and got up as fast as she could. Objects were breaking all around her, but she ignored them and pulled out her wand and casted a shield charm around herself. She rushed into her room to pull out the small chest under her bed that had an arrangement of potions. Spotting the calming draught she grabbed that and ran back to Harry.
It was an amazement that her house was still standing after all that is happening. She struggled to get near to Harry, it seemed like his magic was trying to protect him from everything.
"Harry, you are safe with me," she said, genuinely.
His magic seemed to separate to let her get through. She quickly poured the calming drought into his mouth before he registered what was going on. His magic retreated back into him slowly, Harry swayed slightly but she caught him. She guided Harry to the couch, pushing the broken glass off of it. For some reason she was not made at the boy for breaking everything, she just felt sad that he had to go through so much.
"What happened?" Harry asked, slowly, looking around at the disaster of the house, and the fact that they are not in the library anymore.
