"Bleglglglgl."
YOU GROANED, rubbing your temple with two fingers. "I should not have asked for a refill," you muttered to yourself. You had just chugged down two liters of milk tea. You had no clue how you managed to pull of that feat.
You paid for your drink and slung your bookbag over your shoulder. You stumbled out of the cafe that you were currently chilling in, and started hobbling towards your little apartment.
As you turned the last corner, you heard a cry from a dumpster. The cry was followed by a series of miserable sobs. "Okay, that is definitely normal, yes, a crying dumpster is very normal," you blabbed, and slowly backed away from it.
"Someone, help! Please!" a voice cried. "Yes, very normal," you repeated, and started walking towards the dumpster.
You gingerly opened the lid and peered in. A disgusting stench of rotting pork and toxic waste filled your nostrils. Nonetheless, you opened your eyes searched for the source of the cry.
Two little children, twins by the look of it, huddled together, staring at you with wide, scared eyes. You couldn't believe how adorable they looked, even with the disgustang smell, their ragged clothes, and tangled hair. "Please, help us," one of the twins, a male with a long braid said, making the most adorable puppy eyes at you.
"My sister is sick! Please!" he begged, pointing towards the other twin, a little girl with blond twin tails. "Pretty children in a dumpster is very normal," you continued, and reached down and scooped the twins up. And with that, you raced towards your apartment, ignoring the way your milk tea churned around and cramped your stomach.
YOU GENTLY let the little girl down on your bed, covering her with the warmest quilts and propping her head with the fluffiest pillow. She had been semi-unconscious, until now. Her beautiful, yellow-orange eyes followed you around as you got her comfortable.
"Hello, there," you said, giving her a closed eye-smile. "My name is (Name)."
LUMINE liked you immediately. The way your E/C eyes closed when you smiled at her, the way you had carefully made her comfortable in your own bed. Whenever she or Aether had asked another person for help, they would quickly walk away while scrunching their noses.
However, you had instantly stepped down to help. You had even taken her and her twin brother to your house. And now, you were currently scooping her up and was heading out towards the hallway.
"C'MON, PRETTY," you cooed as you and the little girl headed towards the bathroom. The girl hugged you tightly and wouldn't let go as you tried to pry her off and put her in a hot bath. "Ha ha, you like me, don't you?" you smirked.
The little girl squealed in delight as you tickled her off you. "Now, now, time for a bath~" you sang, as you turned the hot water on. Honestly, you were pretty scared. You had never washed a child before.
Even though you were an adult and they were children, washing the girl, and especially the boy made you a bit flustered. Nonetheless, you helped the tiny female peel her dirty clothes off and get into the bathtub.
"Hey, I don't know you're name yet," you realized as you gently massaged shampoo into the girl's hair. "Lumine..." the girl squeaked. "M-My name is L-Lumine." You couldn't help but smile at Lumine's little stutters.
"Aw, that's a really pretty name!" you complimented and rinsed off the shampoo off of Lumine's honey colored hair. Lumine giggled. "I like your name too, big sis (Name)," she said. At that moment, you swore your heart melted into a puddle.
After washing Lumine and Aether (the male twin, he was literally a fucking human puppy-though washing him was a bit more awkward than washing Lumine), you warmed a pan of store-bought lasagna and was currently scooping bits of the cheesy goodness into plates.
Lumine was now braiding Aether's hair and the male was going on and on about random things. Suddenly, out of nowhere, Aether asked, "Big sis (Name), why did you help us?" You stopped for a second, pondering the question.
Then, you started to laugh. "Eh...?" Aether said, puzzled. Lumine wore a similar expression. "W-Why are you laughing?" she asked. "Hah, Aether's question caught me off guard. Heck, I don't know! I just saw you guys in a trash can and I guess my motherly instincts just kicked in," you continued chuckling, though you had no clue why.
"Does that mean you're a mom?" Lumine asked. You choked on nothing. "Oh, you guys are going to be the death of me," you said, placing the plates of lasagna on the wooden, circular table. "I just like children. I am a teacher-in-training," you said.
"You are? Then can you teach us stuff?" Aether asked, nibbling on a piece of his lasagna. "Like what?" you asked, shoveling food into your mouth. Even though these kids had lived in a dumpster, they definitely had way better table manners than you, a fully matured young adult.
"I dunno, we never ever had proper education," Lumine said sadly, looking at her slice of lasagna. "You want to go to school?" you asked, bewildered. You liked studying, you really did. You even had a bit higher than average grade because of all the studying you did in high school. But you didn't really like sitting in a desk nine hours a day, just staring at a teacher's back while they yakked on and on about random things while making marks in the chalkboard.
"Yeah! School is really cool. You get to learn new stuff and hang out with your friends and wear the same clothes together and eat together and-" Lumine said gasping for breath, flailing her arms around. You couldn't help but pinch his cheeks. "You're so adorable!" you squealed.
Lumine's cheeks turned a light pink hue while Aether dropped his fork. "Hey, I'm adorable too, big sis (Name)!" he said, making a 'hmph' sound while crossing his tiny arms. You laughed at his jealously and patted his fluffy head.
"Now, you guys better eat up, because we have to go shopping tomorrow for your clothes," you said, checking the clock.
As Aether and Lumine resumed their sibling chit chatting with you, you couldn't help but feel happy. You used to be a lonely ass, but now, you couldn't be more happier talking to two sweet, adorable children while eating microwaved lasagna.
