Chapter three

We're at school and I'm walking down the hallway to my locker my bag slung on my back when we head "attention, students. One last reminder to buy your tickets to tonight's homecoming dance. A magical evening full of wonder, excitement, and romance can be yours for only £10.99." The P.A system announces and I roll my eyes Monse is definitely gonna make me go I close my locker after getting my books I turn to see Latrelle "hey L." I smile "hey, ma. You going to the homecoming dance?" Latrelle asks "yeah, monses probably gonna force me. Why?" I ask "just wanted to tell you to save me a dance." Latrelle says and i laugh "of course." I say then I see Jamal walking down the hall I stop laughing pretending that I wasn't talking to Latrelle, Latrelle looks confused until he sees Jamal he pulls his phone out pretending he was talking to someone when Jamal walks by not even noticing us I let out a breath and turn back to Latrelle "better be more careful." I say and he nods "I've gotta go ma- Juno I'll see you later." Latrelle says and I nod "bye Latrelle." I say walking off to my class.

I sit behind Ruby and Olivia,  Olivia's on her phone while rubys staring at her "so, you going?" Ruby asks her "yeah. Do you-" she starts but ruby speaks at the same time "do you-" Oliva laughs "you go first." Ruby says "do you need any underwear?" Oliva asks him "what?" He looks mortified "you'r mums at Costco." Oliva says "um... I'm good." Ruby says turning around "okay. Also, they ran out of your gummy vitamins, so your mum got you small, easy to swallow pills. That cool?" Oliva asks and Ruby nods then the P.A comes back on "however, this is not an opportunity to get freaky. Remember: if you are not responsible, you'll end up with responsibility. So, there will be no twerking, yiking, getting cruck, lit, or turnt. For all you ladies, dress appropriately. Nobody wants to see your lower butt cheeks. And last but not least: no ID, No entrance. No exceptions." I shrug not really caring I just go on my phone.

At lunch I'm sitting at the table when Olivia and Monse walk over with their food then a second later Cesar, Ruby and Jamal sit down too it's just an awkward silence "I'm wearing indigo tonight. I thought we should claim colours to avoid outfit clashes. Indigo? Any objections? Oh, and my pants have red pockets. I know, it sounds weird, but it works." Ruby says suddenly "what are the pockets for? R****ies?" Oliva asks "so, what time should we meet?" Cesar asks "yeah, let's get that in the books. The more specific, the better. What are you guys thinking, like 8:00? 8:05? 8:10?" Jamal asks "imma play it by ear. I'm not sure I'm feeling it." Oliva says "what? Why?" Ruby asks quickly "not sure I'm in the mode to be objectified. If I want to see b*****, I'll just go online." Olivia says "didn't you hear principal Sarge? This dance is a no-bone zone." Jamal points out "are you kidding? Dances are cesspools of bad behaviour." Monse says and Cesar shakes his head "i don't want to go." Monse adds "wow I really though you'd make go mons. Kinda wanna go to be honest." I point out "yeah, people get f***ky, but what's wrong with getting f***ky?" Ruby says and Oliva gives him a look "I don't get it." Ruby concludes "explain it to us. Why don't you wanna go? You were petty exited this morning." Cesar directs at Monse "that was before I remembered how lame dances are. And maybe we're just not in the mood." Monse spits "oh, is it your menses?" Ruby asks "what the fuck Ruby." I groan "her what?" Olivia asks "her lady pond has runneth red." Ruby explains and Cesar and Jamal look disappointed and disgusted "lady pond?" Monse asks as Jamal nudges Ruby "what? What am I saying wrong?" Ruby asks "everything!" Me Monse and Olivia shout then my phone pings and I look down at it:

I look up from my phone "see even juni wants to go." Cesar says "actually I don't want to anymore." I say "why don't you wanna go juni?" Ruby asks "nothing there for me." I shrug "you guys just dont understand it's like to be a woman and treated like an object. We have hearts!" Monse says "and minds." Olivia adds "so take out any question that we're going tonight. The answer is no. With a period, cause that's what that's actually called." Olivia says "Olivia, Juni, let's go dine in a less hostile environment." Monse says "you read my mind." Olivia says as we stand up I shrug and follow them.

I'm walking with Monse and Olivia home "we should go to the dance." Monse says as we walk "what? Why?" Olivia asks "because we can't let him- I mean, them win." Monse says "no way. We need to Stand our ground." Olivia says "and I just don't wanna a go I have no reason the only reason I was going isn't." I say and Monse nods "which is why we can't sit at home. We have to go." Monse says "I'm totally confused." Olivia says "we're falling prey to the obvious argument, which that we have to sit out to make a point. But the point is, we go. If we don't, they win." Monse says as we reach my house "very compelling still staying home." I say as I walk to my door "bye mons bye Olivia." I wave and walk into my house closing the door once they wave.

I sit on my bed watching tv when my phone pings:

Okay I'm staying home though lmk how it goes

I put my phone back down when I hear scratching at my door I open it to see my puppy Halo "hey bubs." I let her into my room and sit on my bed picking her up and putting her beside me when my phone pings:

The dance got cancelled we're partying at monses

I put my phone back down when I hear a tap at my window I go to it trying not to wake a sleeping Halo I open it to see Latrelle I move aside letting him in "hey love." I yawn as Latrelle comes over to me and hugs me "I missed you." Latrelle says into my hair "missed you too." I smile and kiss his check "I'm sorry I had to miss the dance." Latrelle says "it's fine id rather be here anyways plus it got cancelled." I shrug he laughs "thought it would heard one of the other prophet$' talking about pullin up there." Latrelle says and I nod "yeah think everyone went monses." I yawn then latrelles phone rings "one second ma." He says and walks over to the other side of my room answering it I nod and turn back to halo checking on her when Latrelle comes on "look I have to go but I'll see you tomorrow." Latrelle says as I look up at him "alright see you tomorrow." I say and get up hugging him and giving him a kiss he walks over to the window and leaves.
