KENNY PUSHED THE DOJO'S DOOR OPEN!

The building seemed anything but inviting that day, but when did it ever? Kenny was regretting listening to his best friend when she'd encouraged him to return.

For hours that morning, the pair had practiced different moves so they could improve.

"I want another shot." Kenny demanded, standing at the head of the mat.

"I'm sorry, I don't have the time to teach weaklings." The sensei brushed him off.

Cherry shifted in an attempt to get comfortable and push up the anger that bubbles beneath her skin. She had no idea why she had felt so aggressive. Surely just because everybody was protective over their friends, right?

"Give him another chance, sensei. Maybe he'll surprise you." Robby shared a knowing look with Kenny.

"All right, on the mat. Mr. Park, make this quick." The sensei motioned the pair back onto the mat. The black-haired guy from the day before walked up to the mat. "You got it, sensei."

A frown appeared on both Cherry and Robby's features when Kenny ran at the first sign of movement.

"Look at him, running to mommy. Bye, you little bitch." The black-haired boy mocked, waving and laughing with the rest of the dojo members.

Cherry wanted to watch Kenny beat him into the floor. She grimaced at the violent thought and tried to push it down.

Kenny took a deep breath, and ran forward, his fist colliding with the black-haired boy's cheek.

The blonde girl nodded, resisting an entertained smile. "Kid's fast."

"What the hell? He hit me when I wasn't looking. That's some bullshit." The black-haired boy argued, looking toward his sensei.

"Deserved." Cherry spoke without thinking.

A student standing beside her covered her mouth to stifle a laugh.

"You're right, Mr. Park. He didn't line up. So that won't count as a point." The sensei agreed.

"Sorry, I didn't know the rules." Kenny apologized.

"That was your one chance."

"Okay."

Kenny walked off the mat, and Cherry frowned but was fast to follow after him, already planning how she'd comfort him this time.

"Where you going, Mr. Payne? Take your spot." The sensei paused him and glanced over at Cherry. "I'm assuming you will, too."

Kenny couldn't bite back the grin on his face as he made his way onto the empty space on the mat. Cherry stood right beside him.
