Nicolas nelson had been training to be a bodyguard since he was fifteen, but his journey started years before. He joined the army cadets when he was fourteen and soon showed exceptional promise. He was athletic, observant and possessed a golden retriever like loyalty.

It was because of this he was scouted by a private security service . They were unique because they trained and employed teenagers to be bodyguards.

The bodyguards under 18 were technically employed as a 'junior security assistant'. Their role was to provide an added layer of protection for the clients children. The inconspicuous nature of teenage bodyguards provided some exceptional advantages.

Attackers would dismiss them and the kids were more likely to tolerate a bodyguard their own age.

Nick wanted to be a bodyguard and this company allowed him to be one when he was just sixteen. It also gave him a career path as he would hired into the main agency when he came of age. The agency even had its own education program for the teen bodyguards, run by first class tutors who kept their grades high.

Nick had been training for sixth months when he got his first mission. He liked the exercise, the self-defence classes and learning how to constantly scan for threats. Another important thing he learnt were all the security protocols. In an emergency he had to be an asset to the team instead of a liability.

In the field he wore normal clothing, no suits or shades. But built into nicks hoodie and tracksuits was a nanotube matrix. Capable of stopping knives and low powered bullets. He also had an invisibly small earpiece, and microphone in his sleeve. As a child he was not allowed to carry weapons but he had extensive hand to hand combat training.

Nicks first mission was to protect the spring family. They were an off shoot of the British royal family, something like twentieth in line of the throne. That was why the crown outsourced the family's security to private firms.

Nicks principle was the son, prince Charlie. He had been in the news last year after being outed as gay. The family had been in semi hiding ever since.

Nick had been told that the parents had some specific instructions for him, and was called into his bosses office to meet them.

"Charlie felt overwhelmed by previous security measures so we have agreed to scale back our protection." Julio explained. "Our agreement is that when in low risk situations you will be the only bodyguard right next to him, the rest of your team will wait in the car. Always close but out of sight."

Nick nodded , this was not an unusual setup, it was the whole reason they employed teens, to make life easier for the clients kids.

Jane looked at nicks boss. "We have complete confidentiality yes?" she asked.

"Yes nick as signed the NDA." His boss confirmed, the parents still seemed hesitant. "You asked me for someone with a specific list of traits. Nick is discreet, kind and protective. Not to mention very competent for someone his age. He will keep your son safe."

This seemed to satisfy the royals, Jane glanced over her shoulder to check the door was closed before continuing.

"Charlie is seeing a therapist for a number of issues. Eating disorder, self-harm,  anxiety and depression. He attempted suicide last year. He needs protecting as much from himself as the world. Half you job will be dealing with this, it is a lot of responsibility so we understand if you are not up to it."

Nick considered for a moment. "My job is to protect him." He stated firmly.

They proceeded to give him a long and detailed briefing on Charlie and his issues. They were very strict that none of it be written down. He was not to breath a word of it to anyone except a very short list of people who already knew. It was a little paranoid but after the incident last year they were carful about keeping secrets secret.
