Cadence's mind went blank.

She couldn't hear or see anything. Panic started to set in, and she tried to move, but her body felt heavy and unresponsive. She felt as if she were floating in an endless void, with nothing to anchor her.

Suddenly, a bright light shone in front of her, blinding her. Slowly, shapes started to form within the light, and she realized that she was looking at a room. It was unfamiliar, and she couldn't quite place it.

As her eyes adjusted, she could make out a figure standing in front of her. It was a woman, with long brown hair and piercing blue eyes. The woman smiled at her, and Cadence felt a sense of warmth and comfort emanating from her.

"Welcome, Cadence," the woman said. "My name is Ava. I am here to guide you."

"Guide me where?" Cadence asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

"To the other side," Ava replied. "You have been chosen for a special purpose, and it is time for you to fulfill it."

Cadence felt a wave of confusion and fear wash over her. She wasn't ready to die, was she? She had so much left to do in her life.

"Am I...am I dead?" Cadence asked, her voice trembling.

Ava smiled reassuringly. "Not yet, but your time is coming. You have been granted a gift, Cadence. You can hear the thoughts of others, and you have the power to help them."

Cadence felt a jolt of surprise. The ability to read minds? Was that even possible?

"You will know when the time is right," Ava continued. "But for now, you must return to your body. Your family needs you."

Before Cadence could protest or ask more questions, the light started to fade, and the shapes began to blur. She felt a sense of weightlessness, and then suddenly, she was back in her living room, slumped over on the floor.

Josh was kneeling beside her, his face etched with worry. Daisy was wailing in his arms.

"Cadence, are you okay?" he asked, helping her sit up.

Cadence blinked, disoriented. She could feel the residue of Ava's presence in her mind, like a whisper.

"I...I think so," she said, rubbing her forehead. "What happened?"

"You passed out," Josh said, his voice shaking. "I thought you were having a seizure or something."

Cadence tried to process what had just happened. Was it all a dream? A hallucination? She couldn't be sure. But she had a feeling that her life was about to change in ways she couldn't even imagine.
