your mother and mine

– "IT'S GETTING WEAKER. SHE'S GONNA GET THROUGH." Neal was right. Rhaenyra's protection spell wouldn't hold forever.
"Maybe it's for the best." Gold huffed. "At least this cursed power will pass from this world."
"No." Neal tossed his sword onto a nearby table where it clattered loudly. "No, you're not dying."
"I am dying. That much is certain. I need to talk to Belle. Emma... please." She handed over her phone.
"Who's Belle?"
"Your dad's girlfriend." Emma said.
Neal stood to approach Rhaenyra. "Do you know what he used?" He asked quietly as Gold spoke on the phone. "Is there a cure?"
She pressed her lips together, shaking her head. "I made it myself. I intentionally used three different poisons with very limited cures. And each one would cancel out the cures for the others." She glared down at her feet. "Using it was incredibly smart of him."
He frowned. "What happened with you two? Last I checked you were inseparable."
"The curse only got one of us." She said. "After I found him again, I thought it was for good, but then he just... disappeared. He didn't even tell me he was leaving."
He glanced back at his own father. "I never took Hook for one to run off."
She shook her head. "Neither did I." Her expression abruptly hardened and she strode purposefully to the other end of the room to check Cora's progress.
Neal knew better than to push the subject, instead listening in to the rest of his father's confession to Belle. She didn't turn around when the call ended, nor when he began talking to Neal. As much as she wanted her friend to have what he deserved, it was difficult and painful to wrap her mind around the fact that while Hook had abandoned her, Rumplestiltskin of all people was here telling his son he loved him, that he was sorry as he died.
She felt the moment the barrier broke, and Cora stepped in, a brand new burn down her jawline and throat, this one larger than the last. She raised a hand to them, but Rhaenyra spoke first. "Dracarys!" Drogon spread his wings in the rafters, a sacred opening his mouth to spill flame down on the bitch. Unfortunately, when the flames went out, Cora was just fine.
"Get out of my way." Purple smoke surrounded them, and then suddenly Emma Neal and Rhaenyra stood in the forest, Drogon swooping down to land next to them with a frustrated screech.
Rhaenyra's lips parted slightly. "That wretched..."
"We have to get back." Neal said quickly.
"That's probably an awful idea." she sighed. "But let's go." she bit her lip for a moment, debating whether or not it was safe for Drogon to grow to a large enough size to ride. "It's cloudy enough. If we stay high and land quickly behind the shop, we should be able to fly there."
Emma blinked in shock. "You want us to do what?"
Drogon shook out his neck with a snarl before growing big enough to carry the three of them. "You fought a dragon already, Emma. You can't possibly be afraid of this one; he's on your side." Rhaenyra climbed the dragon's spikes before patting his shoulder gently, signalling him to lower it down to make it easier for the other two. Neal went first, as he'd ridden the dragon with the princess twice before, then extended a hand to help Emma, who accepted despite her reservations. "Sōves, Drogon." The others held on tighter as Drogon reared back, spreading his wings and leaping into the sky. He flew straight up, higher and higher until they were nothing but a shadow above the clouds. The Winged Shadow, they'd called him back in Essos. It didn't take them long to get there, and when Drogon plunged straight down for the alley behind Gold's shop, Rhaenyra was pretty sure she heard both Neal and Emma scream. He spread his wings at the last minute to land with a thump before lowering his shoulder again to allow them back to solid ground. What they found was quite a mess.
Regina and Gold were standing off outside the shop, the Charmings behind Gold with Snow's face buried in David's coat. "Ah, shit." Rhaenyra huffed. She wondered where Cora was until they got close enough to see Regina's tearstained face.
"You." Regina snarled, eyes locking on Emma. "Did you know?"
Emma looked bewildered. "Know what??"
"That your mother was going to kill mine!"
Rhaenyra raised an appreciative brow in Snow's direction. I didn't think she had it in her. She took in the woman's fragile state, likely from guilt and whatnot. Then again, maybe she doesn't.
"Calm down, Regina." Gold said evenly. "Cora had to die. She would have turned this town into something a little messier than I wanted."
"I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU WANT!"
"Well, dearie, you're not getting past me today. So I suggest you take care of your mother. You'll bury her somewhere kinder than I will."
With one final death glare, Regina disappeared in a puff of purple. Immediately, the others all swarmed each other with a million 'are you okay' and 'I was so worried' and whatnot. All but Rhaenyra and Gold. At least until Ruby's car pulled up, at least. As soon as Rhaenyra saw Henry, she rushed forward to scoop him up into a hug as he laughed.
"Nyra! I missed you! Put me down!"
She grinned, setting him back on the sidewalk. "I missed you too, Henry."
"Did you guys stop Cora? Is everyone okay? Are we safe?"
"Yeah, we stopped her." She assured him, mind reeling a little at his rushed questioning. "Are you okay?"
"Of course."
"Hey, kiddo, you good?" Rhaenyra turned as Neal approached, and was surprised when Henry hugged him.
"I'm good."
"Did I miss something?" Rhaenyra guessed.
"Oh, yeah! This is my dad."
Her eyebrows went up as she shot Neal a teasing look. "You... and her?"
"Shut up."
"Hey, no, it explains a lot." She laughed.
"Shut up." He grumbled, though it was good-natured. They both caught Henry's confused look. "Oh, Rhaenyra's an old friend of mine from way before this world." Neal explained.
"Oh!" Henry practically glowed. "That's so cool."
