Being trained as the next Sect Leader of a prominent clan is exhausting, considering Lan Xichen was still a child to bear such heavy responsibility.
Holding his little brother's small hands, it gave him a fond feeling as he sighs.
It was good enough that the Elders had gave him a lenient day off, to show Lan Zhan the first snow in the streets of Gusu to keep his mind busy from thinking, he reasons.
But, a part of it was the truth.
Their mother had just died, after all.
"Brother."
Lan Xichen kneels, patting Lan Zhan's head in a soft manner.
"What is it, A-Zhan?"
Lan Zhan looked at a certain place and so, Lan Xichen followed his trail of sight.
Oh.
Then again, they are both just children.
"Which one do you want?"
It's normal for a child to want something that they can play play with it. Lan Xichen was once like that too before their father went into seclusion.
Lan Zhan silently pointed at a rattledrum, making the old woman give him the plaything.
"Many thanks." Lan Xichen says with a soft smile, handing the money to pay for the drum.
They walked through the streets, Lan Xichen feeding his brother with delicious smelling food coming from the vendors as they wait for the first snow.
Soon enough, the first snow fell against Lan Zhan's cheeks, making the older giggle to himself at his brother's cuteness.
"Excuse me!"
Both brothers looked at the voice, and see a child who only have one layer of clothing looking at them.
"What is it?" Lan Xichen asks, a small smile on his face.
"Do you know where can I buy hair ties? The silk one if possible!"
What a smart child.
Lan Zhan looks, and Lan Xichen noticed this.
"A-Zhan, do you want to show him the way?"
His little brother is really easy to read.
"Mn. Can I?"
Lan Xichen caressed his brother's head again, "Go ahead. Just be safe, okay?"
Lan Zhan nods before leaving with the child who was chattering away, his brother simply listening.
As he drinks the remaining tea in his cup, he stands up to leave.
He keeps walking mindlessly, drowning in the bustling streets of Gusu as he hums.
From afar, he could see a shade of red.
"What a peculiar hair color." He says to himself, bit he couldn't even stop as he get drawn towards the color of red.
Lan Xichen widen his eyes when the man slips, running to him as he encircled his arm against the latter's stomach to stop him from falling to a cold river.
"Careful, the streets of Gusu becomes slippery on winter." Lan Xichen says with a gentle voice, relieved that no accident happened.
As the redhead turns to look at him, Lan Xichen could feel his breath hitch in his throat.
'How beautiful.'
It was the first time he had seen such a beautiful existence, he thinks as he let go of the man.
