Next morning, In Chemistry lecture!
Kyle- Good Morning students, Sit and Im gonna take a Chemistry +Biology Test as i have two lectures !
Anna was shocked
In her mind( I have revised Chemistry and biology only 25 times! )
(Yeah, she have nerdy interests)
Kyle- Heres the first question,
Which of the following statements about the Modern Periodic Table is correct:It has 18 horizontal rows known as Periods
It has 7 vertical columns known as Periods
It has 18 vertical columns known as Groups
It has 7 horizontal rows known as Groups
Anna- Sir, Option 3 : It has 18 vertical columns known as Groups is correct
Kyle- Good Anna
Kyle- Explain Breifly Anna,
Anna- Sir,
Periodic table:It's an arrangement of all the known elements. All elements are arranged (from left to right and top to bottom) in order of increasing atomic number and recurring chemical properties. All the rows represent periods. All the columns represent groups.Elements in the same group have the same valence electron configuration and therefore same chemical properties.Elements in the same period have an increasing order of valence electrons. The elements are arranged in 7 horizontal rows, called periods, and 18 vertical columns, called groups.
Kyle- Wow Anna, A good and fantastic explanation!
Sajnandi- Hmm, She is the tail of teachers huh!
Anna- Thanks Sir
Kyle- The compound containing both covalent and ionic bond is ______.
(A) MgCl2 (B) Ca0 (c) NH4Cl (d) AlBr3
Jimmy- Ca0 ?
Kyle- No Jimmy,
Anna- Its NH4Cl
As;
MgCl2 is an Ionic compoundGenerated through electron transfer because Mg has a valency of +2 and chlorine has a valency of -1, hence the product form is MgCl2.Ionic bonds are created when the oppositely charged magnesium and chloride ions attract one other. Each cation has anions surrounding it, and each anion has cations surrounding it.CaO is an ionic compoundBecause it is created between a metal and a non-metal, calcium oxide is ionic.Ionic bonds are generated between metal and non-metal atoms.NH4Cl is both ionic and covalent bonds containing compound Ionic bonds because the cation ammonium (NH4 +) has a single electron in its valence shell and Chlorine requires a single electron to fill its valence shell, it borrows one from Chlorine. It also includes a covalent bond between Nitrogen and Hydrogen atoms in the Ammonium ion, as well as one co-ordinate bond between one hydrogen and nitrogen.AlBr3 is a covalent compoundIt is because of the lesser difference of electronegativity.Hence the correct answer to the question is NH4Cl containing both ionic and covalent bonds.
Kyle- Wow Anna, You made me Speechless!
