It was a breezy, somewhat cloudy autumn day on the Inkwell Isles. Mugman was out at the city park, alone without his brother. This was a rare occurrence, only happening when they fight to the point that they cannot stand to be around one another.
So, there he was. Mugman, sitting on a bench in the park. Perfect.
Bowlboy tried to decide how he would approach Mugman. He never really liked him, so he'd have to be careful about how he did this as to not scare him away- or rather, how not to make him storm off angrily. After careful consideration, he supposed that the more natural route would give him the best odds at hanging out with his idol's brother. So, he casually approached the bench and sat upon the other side of it, pulling out a book and reading. He would have to read this book for school anyways, so why not do it now?
Mugman, after a minute or two, noticed who was sharing this bench with him. "Bowlboy?!" he muttered to himself angrily. After realizing that the bowl seemed to be minding his own business, he decided to do the same.
A few moments, then minutes, then an hour had passed. Mugman, who also had a book, had finished reading, while Bowlboy had not. Mugman twiddled his thumbs, kicked his feet, and looked around at the nature that surrounded them. He was bored. So, out of desperation, he finally turned to Bowlboy and asked him, "Hey, uh, whaddaya readin'?"
Wait, was this actually working? Was he actually getting an opportunity to talk to his idol? Well, he'd better not waste it! He should make this count!
"Oh, uhh.. it's a book aI've gotta read fer' school."
"Oh, is it? What's it about?"
"Oh, that? Well, it's.. It's about... Uhm..."
Why couldn't he come up with what this book was about? He'd been reading it for hours!
"It's... About Cowboys and Indians." He blurted out, smiling sheepishly afterward.
"Lemme see 'dat." Mugman spoke sternly before snatching the book from Bowlboy's gloved mits. "What the.. This book isn't about- cowboys and indians! It's about the Civil War! You dunce!" he shouted and berated, shoving the book back into the bowl's hands. Mugman turned away, but started giggling and wheezing. "I-I can see how you'd make that mistake though. Lemme clear up a few things for ya."
Mugman proceeded to go on and on about all sorts of things relating to the Civil War. "And so, that's how the Union won the fight!" Mugman finished. Bowlboy was giggling. "Oh, wowie, that was a doozy. You sure do know yer' stuff, huh?" he said, wiping a tear from his eye. "Yessirrie, I sure do." Mugman nodded. "Um, anyways, I gotta go. Bye." Mugman took his book and left while Bowlboy waved.
Now that Bowlboy was alone, he sighed a large sigh, and propped his face with his arms, elbows resting on the knees. That was magical.
