Amara's pov.
__________________I wasn't expecting anything out of the rest of my day other than to try and not poison Kailani with my cooking, which is why I picked up burgers and wings on the way back, but my heart shattered when I saw mama at the door.
It's not for the reason you think.Mama does not approve of us eating anything that isn't home made. I vividly remember this woman giving away my happy meal to a kid who was playing outside because she claimed take-outs make people lazy. I also remember when we first met and I told her I can't cook, she not only looked at me like I was crazy but also looked at my mother like she was insane when I told her about what I grew up eating.
My mother and I aren't on talking terms. Not because we don't get along or had a fight, but because we have nothing to talk about. I don't know who my father is nor do I want to know cause even though my mother was forever working, she was there and was enough.
We do call each other every once in a while and catch up but I haven't physically seen her in about 8 months now but video called her two weeks back. She did get married and they have a three year old son together. For her own safety, I was introduced to them both as her little sister instead of her daughter which she argued with me about for a while but understood and later accepted.
"How long have you been out here? Why didn't you call us mama?" I asked walking toward her to avoid her coming to the car
"I was in the neighborhood and wanted to personally deliver a wedding invitation then have a girls night" she said has she hugged me
"I'd love that" I squealed out hugging her back which made her chuckle. We proceeded into the house talking about everything we should do and prepare for our girls night but what I failed to consider is my precious husband's existence.
"Kailani" mama said looking him up and down making me chuckle
"Mama" he replied with just as much sass
"Ooh now you 'mama' me, the disrespect of it all. When was the last time you called me huh? I could have died and only dove would have known since she's the only one who bothers to call me" she said placing her hands on her hips
"She would have told me you died anyway" Kailani replied making mama gasp and throw pan at him
"Mama!""Piece of shit" she said with a huff while I stood there smiling like an idiot. Once the initial shock of his mother possibly killing him in the near future passed, Kailani hugged her and kissed her forehead.
There were times in the past when I wished she was my mother, but that was before I realized two things. One, it's the way her son turned out. I don't think Kailani would have turned out to be such a wonderful man if he was raised by anyone else but his mother. Two, is the way I turned out. I would have been a completely different person if I was to be raised by anyone who wasn't my mother. She gave me a backbone, an unhinged brain and a questionable personality that my husband saw a wife in.
"Hi baby" he said making me smile brightly at him
"Hi" I replied walking into his opened arms
"Bye" mama said making Kailani scoff
"Where am I supposed to go at 7pm?"
"That sounds like a you problem" mama replied then walked away making Kailani sigh
"This is a form of abuse you know" he said while pouting making me chuckle and hand him my keys
